He was born in Cuba but moved to Mexico and fought most of his career from there after Castro took over. You can't chose both what would be the fun in that and this is not a sicentific poll.

    I think he is Mexican.

To do what he did, he needed to fight outside of Cuba, and go against what Cuba stands for, and so the Mexicans took him to heart.

    Cuban for sure!
He learnt to box in Cuba and started out his pro career there.
Kid Chocolate, Kid Gavilan and Luis Manuel Rodrigues all spent almost their entire careers in the US still I can't see anyone claiming they were US fighters.
It was good however of Mexico too give him the chance too thrive so if anyone there consider him theirs that's fine with me.

To me the main thing is that his style is so typical cuban with those loose dangling arms, bolos and looping hooks and the smooth movement that I find it impossible not to think of him as cuban

Cuban for me. If the political situation wasn't so bad he'd be from there and I feel it bad someone should lose their identity due to a regime that came into place after Napoles considered himself a Cuban.

Napoles wanted to continue to fight pro, he knew what he needed to do and he to did it with brilliance himself, as a Mexican.

napoles is a resident of Mexico, making him "Mexican", but he is a Cuban through and through, and most importantly, he FOUGHT like a Cuban, and not a Mexican.
