Is Joseph Parker done?

Wouldn't say he is done the division is not the best and would give all the top ten a fight and possibly win a few of them.

Still a few fights he could make in the future but he is only young . Needs to come back with a couple of confidence builders . Then go for a big fight again.

 

Yes, he is done.

 

Done as far as becoming a champion again goes, but he still has some big fights he can partake in, and is still young (especially as far as heavies go). Truth be told he got lucky in the first place to get a belt, and narrowly/debatably won a couple of fights before his losses.

 

I wasn't shocked that he lost against Whyte. If Parker dumps the team he has and gets a good coach like Ronnie Shields, Abel Sanchez, or even Roach Parker he has the potential to be a force in the division. Going back as far as the Takam fight he hasn't improved and continues to make the same mistakes. Parker's footwork and punching technique are awful and often neutralize his own work . He has fast hands and a chin, but that isn't good enough to last at the top.

If Parker keeps the same team I see him quickly becoming a gatekeeper.

 

He needs to make some serious adjustment. Perhaps primarily psychologically.

He was sulky and pathetic with Whyte. He was perfectly capable of beating Whyte and he should have.

That said, he was never that good. ****ing MD against Ruiz... Christ.

I wouldn't say he's done. When you're fighting the other contenders in your division, a loss shouldn't be a big deal. You want to see fighters of a similar level in against each other. He lost to Whyte, it was a close fight, on another fight he might've won it. And if the headbutt from Whyte wasn't scored as a knockdown, he'd have earned a draw. I wouldn't be so hard on him to say he's done now. He deserves credit IMO for taking the Whyte fight after the loss to Joshua. He tried to get straight back in the mix by taking on a dangerous fight against another contender. I don't see why he can't roll the dice again, he's still capable of getting a good win against somebody relevant IMO. Matchmaking for him is the key for his next fight. A meaningful but winnable fight. Maybe like a Brezeale, Kownacki or Jennings for example.

 

Not at all. Hes only 26. The question for Parker is that after 2 big money fights, maybe the 2 biggest hell have in his career, is there any motivation to even come back when he has a young family and has to live and fight away from home to train and fight?

 

Done? Of course its 2018 where a single loss is the end let alone two .lol


The reality is its done for Barry if Parker takes a third consecutive loss ( its not his fault Parker cant follow instructions) and lets not include Whyte may actually be better then previously thought ( not by me) on this site..i know its not possible....lol

Parkers a good fighter and showed a pretty good right hand and overall ability to After fighting Joshua ( a advantage of being active against a BETTER fighter then Whyte ) which also tells Whytes toughness.

if he got a talented trainer like Adam Booth to give him some more variety he could come back to top level - right now with his current team he is declining.

 

The guy has shown zero improvement in boxing IQ and punching technique. Just having a good chin and blindly trying to come forward is not enough. For someone who likes to come inside, he doesn't throw enough punches or show enough activity inside either. I was shocked by his loss to Whyte.

 

It really depends what he does from now on. If he sticks with Barry I think it's safe to say he's done at top level because his weaknesses have been exposed in his losses. People know what strategy to adopt to beat him and that's going to make every fight vs a decent opponent difficult.

A different coach may show him another way to fight which could see him finally fulfill his potential.

Parker needs to be very careful how he is matched up from now on. He needs time to retool if he's going to make another run at a title.

 

Parker is on the same level as Miller or Kownacki.
