He was just bigger than the guys he beat doesn`t have welter poweer and can`t beat good fighters that can match his size, no power, a lot of British world champs have been overrated.
Belts are not everything. Broner is a 3 weight world champion does he belong in the HOF? No obviously Taylor was way, way better than Broner lol. But who you beat for those belts matters more than the belts. Yes becoming undisputed usually isn't an easy thing to do. But Taylor fought in one of the weakest divisions and in recent years it seems the sanctioning bodies have been more amenable in recent years to unifying which is why we've had so many undisputed champions of late. Usyk, Inoue, Canelo, Haney, Crawford, Taylor and Charlo have all been undisputed in recent years. So while being undisputed historically probably would have guaranteed a place in the HOF, the ease of becoming undisputed of late has made that accomplishment far less impressive. Still impressive but not as impressive as before.
I wouldn't disagree with most of this, but what is the actual benchmark if we aren't inducting fighters into the Hall of Fame for cleaning up a division and winning every single belt? Ricky Hatton is in there despite being absolutely destroyed by 2 of the only 3 elite fighters he faced. Is it based on ticket sales? Why should Hatton be in there and not Taylor?
Name one fighter Taylor has beaten that would have beaten the Tszyu, Hatton fought or was even anywhere near that level? Hatton also moved up a weight and won a belt, though I thought he was lucky vs Collazo. Yeah he got beat by Mayweather and Pac but they were Mayweather and Pac, not Catterall and Lopez. There's a clear difference. If Hatton had not beat a fighter as proven as Tszyu then yeah you might have a point, but Hatton had the fortune of having a great fighter during his time that he could test himself with at 140.
Yeah, I was never a fan of Hatton, but that comparison is a joke. Hatton's win resume blows Taylor's away. Even the 2005 Tszyu would kill Taylor.
That means nothing. In the end, who did he beat? Thats all that matters. A close win over Regis Prograis should never be enough to get a guy into the HOF. And Jose Ramirez is nothing more than average. It'd be disgraceful if Taylor made the HOF.
No longevity and consistency is important and the guys just fallen off a cliff.. reminds me of Jermaine Taylor
He is a former undisputed champion so I think by default he certainly deserves it. I would say he only had three notable wins: a past it Postol, a very good but not great Prograis and a good Ramirez. It's pretty shallow.
