Cuco, Let's not jump the lake yet on this one but I think that we are witnessing a special boxing jurney that it's just beggining.
I'm with you. I just hope he does not get pressured to carry the weight of the next great champ and make mistakes. Cotto is not done yet. I like the answer of "I'm not going to be the next Gomez, I am going to be just me". I forgot who said the quote, but he has his hands full with all the champs at 122.
I doubt that he'll ever be as good as Gomez (who at his peak was one of the all-around best fighters I've ever seen), but time will tell how far he goes. Hopefully he'll keep his dedication to the sport and always come in the best condition and always be prepared, which was one Gomez' biggest problems.
I know everyone is entitled to their opinion. But it is because of comments like this that we constantly see the "next big thing" fall short of expectations. Why p4p lists change way too many times a year, why a loss today means you have to mount a "come back" and why it is so frustrating to hear how the new flavor of the month could beat any great of past eras. It's nothing personal, but it is just too early to compare Juanma with Gomez.
We shouldn't even be mentioning Lopez in the same sentence as Gomez yet. Let's wait a few years and then compare the two.
