Welcome to the Interwebz where one of the sport's best is now overrated.

Probably just Floyd fans expanding their horizons/targets.

We've got one operating at the moment. Miguel Cotto.

There are many overrated fighters like:

1.) Sugar Ray Robinson that fought B level opposition such as Graziano, LaMotta and Robinson was dropped many times

2.) Floyd is another overrated fighter chickend out and avoided Margarito many times.

3.) Ali was another fake, that cheated with grab & hold tactics.

    :D

You know, I regret posting it in that manner. I remember him knocking out Roger when Chavez was in his 45th or so professional fight.

My point was, not everyone of his first 70 or 80 fights were against top tier competitors. I should've worded it better, because he did take on some good competitors (especially later on.) But I'd venture to say at least half of his first 80 fights (so around 40 or so,) were against no namers. i'm sorry but I don't need to even go on boxrec to know that's the truth.

i was being more critical of him for his level of competition in the 80's, not who he fought in the 90's.

This is the fight that hurts them, the most.

Chavez was a legit all-time great.
    If anything he's become underrated.

    I know what's troubling them.

They're all embarrassed by Floyd's ****ty performance against Pac last night, and Floyd's announcement that he will fight one last time, to try to reach 49-0, because they know Floyd will never reach Chavez's legendary streak of 89-0 (before Chavez lost to a STEROID Cheating-Randall, whom ended w/ broken ribs, but didn't feel pain due to steroids in Randall's body)

He fought enough proper contenders and champions to prove himself an ATG.
So what if he feasted on taxi drivers and road sweepers in between his proper fights ?
You can get rid of all those meaningless fights and he's still left with a great record.

I'd watch JCC anytime over Mayweather. Not even close.

I'm talking about Sr., of course.

I was afraid that you were talking about Sr. Hell no he wasn't overrated...pure unadulterated new age revisionism is what you're pushing here. Watch some more Chavez with someone more level headed than you before you type such stupid stuff anymore like saying "he had no defense"...watch JCC vs Rosario and vs Camacho just for starters.

I'm not doubting the guys greatness. I think you can make an argument for a couple other Mexican fighters though as being the greatest fighters of their country (specifically Olivares and Ricardo Lopez.)

But since you want me to provide statistics to back up my claim that his opposition was dubious in the 80's, I'll be more than happy to oblige:

3 fights before he took on Laporte in 1986, he took on Faustino Barrios in Mexico, a guy who had a 32-13-14 record, than he followed up that sensational victory against Refugio Rojas in Mexico, a guy who had a 29-13 record. Come on now man.

Let's fast forward to Edwin Rosario in 1987. Very impressive win, no doubt, but he followed that match with a win over NIcky Perez, a guy with a 57-14 record, in Mexico. he than beat a green fighter with only 20 profights, once again in Mexico, and followed that up with a fight against Rafael Limon, a guy with a 51-15-2 record in Mexico.

I'm sorry man, but the proof is in the pudding. If FLoyd Mayweather followed up a win over a good fighter with a Rod Salka type of competitor, he would be chastized forever for it. He already takes a lot of **** even though he only fights top 10 rated fighters in his division.

Yeah, but people didn't mind watching Chavez against those opponents because Chavez was entertaining and vicious.

Mayweather stinks the joint out every fight. Great boxer but not really entertaining.
i'd rather see Chavez cave some poor bum's ribs in.

Some of those opponents were pretty good too.
I thought Rodolfo Aguilar was a decent 20-0 fighter.

    That's an entertaining match-up.

I'd rather see this fight than that $400million sh!t last night. :deal
