Is Kell Brook the next big thing?l

Brook has been exciting me and is ready for the step up in quality of opponent.

 

Someone like Estrada or Soto-Karass will destroy Brook in a year or so when he steps up.. nothing to get overly excited about.

Great way to put a damper on things...

He is in a great division with a heap of talent, so he has his work cut out for him, plus i am not sure how his chin will be when he does make the step up.

Top welters I can see him having a decent chance against in a year or so are, berto, cintron (if his chin holds up) and judah (again, if his chin holds up).

He has the talent, lets hope he doesn't have the limitations amir khan has.

 

I admit that comment was a bit assholey, but I just think people are getting too excited about Brook. I think he'll struggle to even beat a decent C+ level pressure fighter with a chin and high output later this year.

 

I kinda agree. Although he's exciting by the standards of talented British fighters, its very difficult to see him breaking into world class. We've seen a fighter like Berto, he's had a lot of problems getting to that class, and I think Berto has more things going for him in truth.

I'm not completely sold on Brook's power, it wasn't that great before fighting soft jawed opponents in his last two outings. Also his chins high up in the air, and without the apparent speed and reflexes of Hamed.

It all sorta points towards a severe unravelling when put under serious pressure by a serious opponent.

I think he can have a good go at the European title, though, but we are jumping the gun.

 

I think he needs to be tested against a much better level of opposition than faced thus far.

Basically I would take bits from each of the previous five posts.....

He has looked excellent thus far, but 16 of those 19 have been bums - including an epic trilogy with Ernie Smith (wtf) whilst the other three would have Rico Spadaford salivating, especially the pudding on FFN last week.

Stick him in with a guy with a decent chin who isn't frightened of a tear up - not necessarily anyone decent..... Hatton jr would be ideal though promotional issues will dictate otherwise..... even someone like Kevin Anderson perhaps.

If he gets past either of those put him in with the EBU title holder or get him some experience fighting on an undercard against a durable but none too clever Mexican....

Judge him in 12 months.

Exactly. We've seen how unimpressive Berto has been against fringe operators like Estrada, Cosme Rivera, and now finally a top fighter like Collazo where he had all manner of problems.

Put Berto in with McIntyre and Elwell and what happens?

 

I'm excited by Brook. Need a step up in level though. Matthew Hatton anyone?

 

Don't even think about Berto in with Elwell.

Ivan Calderon would stop Elwell - that guy needs to see a neurologist.

I wouldn't say M. Hatton is a backward step from Elwell at all.

 

A winning record. In and around commonwealth level for years. And a recent win over Tackie.

M Hatton is a step up from current opposition without doubt!

 

Hatton is the best fight he can make.

He's a step up from his current competition, but he's not too good. Not if you have any ambitions of world class honours, anyway. Also he can actually take a punch and presents a style that is not going to show Brook so much respect. He's fought too many guys that stand off him in awe.

I'd like to see how his defence holds up under attack, if he really has power to keep determined and strong fighters off him, and how his chin is. It would also be nice to see him go 10 rounds.
