Hard to tell. He's done nothing since beating Taylor apart from getting schooled off a pensioner so it's kinda warranted. If he KOs Martinez his stock will rise again, but it's been downhill for a while.

The Youngstown Soldiers (Hermit, Boo, Pavlik is Champ) will be here soon claiming Pavlik is the most underrated fighter of all time.

Since his defeat to Hopkins he has been vastly underrated imo. You have threads popping up saying that Floyd would beat Kelly and not too long ago I remember someone suggesting that Mosley should move up to middleweight and beat Pavlik. However, I think the backlash against Kelly is in part due to the way his fans acted when Pavlik was undefeated. The same backlash would have took place with Calzaghe if he ever got beat and will most likely take place with Mayweather if he ever gets beat.

At the moment he is ridiculously under rated on ESB. Martinez is a guy over whom Pavlik has every advantage except speed and mobility. It is a fight where Pavlik should be the heavy favorite, but KP is behind in at least 2 polls.

yeah he is underrated at the moment by boxing fans in general. Which is the total opposite to this time 18 months ago. When he was hugely overrated

No he is not. Just a lot of Euro love in this place so he doesn't get the love he gets on other boards.

He loses one fight against a top veteran of the sport two weight classes above him and now lots suddenly think any boxer with of skill can school him. He is underrated. Not every boxer is Hopkins.

Martinez is too small to beat Pavlik. He has the ability to out box for a few rounds but won't hurt Pavlik so he will press on and out work him. People have forgotten the power this guy has. He isn't incredibly skilled but punches like a LHW and has the stamina/work rate of a LMW. I'd give Martinez a good chance if he had a bit more pop in his punches which would make Pavlik respect him more, and give him a much better chance of getting a decision.

Nice way of degrading Hopkins' win over Pavlik.

Were you around when that happened? The whole board had gone crazy and praised Hop for an incredible performance vs the middleweight champion.

On point: Yes, Pavlik is definitely being underrated around here. No he's not a spectacularly skilled fighter. But he's a good, young champion, with decent boxing skills, very good power and never stops trying to win when he fights. It's like people were waiting for him to lose so they could bash the **** out of him. It's amazing how easily a fighter can become a bum in some people's eyes, just because he lost a fight.

How is that degrading his win? The corpse of Hopkins schooled Pavlik, that shows what a great fighter Hopkins is/was.

short answer is yes but the respect pavlik had a few years ago, he needs to earn back. his skills are being underrated but it's up to pavlik himself to remedy that

Right now, he is underrated. It's all too typical when fighters lose in a one-sided fight, and it highlights the fact that in boxing, one bad night can set your career back moreso than in practically any other sport. The injury setbacks haven't helped.

Now, it's up to him now to get the momentum back by looking good against Martinez. Even if some people will always use the Hopkins fight against him no matter what happens from here on out, it's only fair to see what happens going forward. It's not as if one bad loss has to wreck a fighter. Fight and beat guys like Martinez, Williams, etc...and the hype train will come right back.

he was overrated and hopkins underrated so now yeah he is a little underrated. happens to all overrated fighters, when they get beat by someone everyone thought they would destroy they think **** this guy ain't all that rather than thinking wow that other guy was something special!

Calling Hopkins a pensioner and a corpse isn't exactly praising.

By saying 'Pavlik got schooled by a pensioner' you're actually giving crystal clear proof of how Pavlik is being underrated around here.

Pavlik was NEVER over rated on ESB. The majority picked Miranda to beat him. The majority picked Taylor to beat him. He lost damned near every fantasy fight anybody ever put him in.

There are guys out there who clearly and blatantly ducked KP because they didn't want none. Put KP in a fantasy fight against those guys and you get, The Other Guy KO1 Pavlik, or, The Other Guy wide UD.

Kelly was never over rated on ESB. And mark my words, he'll get zero credit on ESB for beating Martinez. The post-fight story will be all about how Martinez was never that good, to small, Pavlik would have joined the super six if he had any balls, blah, blah, blah.
