Is Ken Shamrock ruining his legacy by fighting?

Two things on that

1) Ken as a coach was much like Ken as a fighter - ahead of the game in the nineties but wasn't able to reinvent himself to keep the competitive edge as people started copying his basic ideas. Once other camps started learning how to marry ji-jitsu with wrestling or scout out their opponents the Lion's Den started to struggle. Plus you have to remember that during the Lion's Den glory era Frank Shamrock was doing more of the actual coaching.

2) Ken told the UFC in the middle of filming TUF3 that he was going to become a coach in the IFL. That's why they portrayed him as the heel and Tito as the face throughout the season.

 

no, he is shot to ****. when a fighter is irrefutably shot beyond shot then i don't even count their fights. i'm not going to hold ali's last 2 fights against him. even when these guys win sometimes but perform badly i don't hold it against them if there are irrefutably past it.

holyfield for example is finished - his sharpness and durability is not close to what it once was so him looking bad against sherman williams means absolutely nothing.

 

As he's gotten more wrinkly and become a more & more pitiful excuse for a fighter, his **** talking skills have continued to improve. This cuts quite a pathetic, comical figure indeed.

 

not much of a legacy to ruin

 

Don Frye was the turning point on his comeback. Both went still thought off as quality fighters but of course they destroyed each others ankes and knees.

 

imo, ortiz is in a worst position than ken right now

ortiz hasnt won a fight since he beat ken in october 2006

ok ken hasnt exactly faced tough oposition since then but @ least he managed to get 2 wins since

 

Have you actually seen Ken fight? Its heartbreaking. Not only can the guy not go but he plainly doesn't want to be there but has to be for the money. The beating Rizzo gave him last summer was so, so sad.

And you can't compare Tito and Shamrock's win/loss records. Tito's run of opponents has been bloody hard - since Shamrock III his faced four former/current/furture champions and someone in Matt Hamill whose a strong mid-ranking fight whose strength is the same as Tito's. And Little Nog shows no let up.

 

this is the thing i cant comprehend. the fire and rage is completely gone.
at his best ken was always pretty patient but he was still a wrecking ball who at least tried to win.
these days its like watching a boat getting sunk.
he just gets in there stands there trying to look agressive and gets potshotted to pieces.

 

Ken is a genuinely sad story...all the money he made from early days UFC and then WWF was lost so for the past decade he's been taking whatever he can to cobble together enough money to live on. Then he made the mistake of suing Zuffa and losing which cost him even more money.

 

This. I actually feel sorry for Ken now. He simply cant let the past go. Its time for him to go quietly into the night and just train his fighters.
His legacy though isn't ruined. Ken was a pioneer in MMA. That will never change. That said he hasn't been relevant in years.

 

It still puzzles me to this day how Frye fought 3 rounds with Shamrock who literally tore all the cartilage in Don's ankles to shreds with repeated ankle locks and Don refused to tap. Those guys in PRIDE were just ridiculously tough.
