This will be a tough fight and nothing even close to the Lacy fight, I assure you that. To those who think it'll be easy for Calzaghe you're in for a shock, Calzaghe will emerge victorious in my opinion but in a tough war.
Lacy was not totally ineffective, he did get in some of his best shots and some well placed counters to the body and head, no combo's granted, because nobody has landed combinations flush on Calzaghe, but some good shots. Lacy did try to jab his way in, you just don't understand that Calzaghe is excellent at neutralising a jab and that a counter lead right is what he's really vulnerable to, which Lacy did land, to no effect I might add and we all know Kessler is an even lesser hitter punch for punch than Lacy. Kessler will land some of his best, but Calzaghe has a great chin, he's eaten massive shots and has fired back with his best, it will be no different here. What amazes me though is how everyone discounts Calzaghe stunning and dropping Kessler, when Kessler has shown that he doesn't like being hit and that he doesn't like pressure and we know very little about his actual chin. What we do know is that Calzaghe at his best can hit pretty decent, he was stunning Lacy all night and I believe those same shots would have at least put Kessler on the floor. The more and more heated it becomes, the more and more it goes into Calzaghe's game and Kessler becomes more overly cautious and therefore opens himself up to allow the thrashing to commense until the fight is stopped.
Kessler will beat Calzaghe so bad, that afterwards people will be asking...what if Thysse fought Calzaghe?
No, this will probably even make Lacy's attempt against Calzaghe look better, because while he got brutally shutout, he made a valiant attempt, Kessler is just going to go into a shell against the speed and awkwardness and then get thrashed until either he falls or the corner throws in the towel after he's bruised, cut and bloody. This is a mismatch stylistically, I am excited for it because it's yet another deserved legacy win and then we can maybe set up a meeting with Chad Dawson(which your prediction above is probably on target with Dawson-Calz). Dawson is a 50/50 fight, an awesome fight at that, win or lose I want it.
I'd love to see him fight Dawson as well, very good fight for Calzaghe. Would love to see how he'll do against someone like Dawson at this stage of his career.
Nay.......Kessler is white european Lacy is african american Oh and kessler is going to beat calzaghe....It will be great...
That is a fight that I'd not bet on, because it would likely be 'controversial decision' going in either direction. The good news is that Warren and Showtime both expressed interest in Calzaghe/Dawson when the Kessler fight is over, so maybe that would happen. If not, then I'd like to see a final unification with the IBF guy(probably Bute) and then a farewell match against a P4P level guy, maybe Taylor, but I doubt that DiBella signs over Taylor for this one stylistically. Or maybe it's Pavlik at that time, who knows mate.:good
Nay. I will be shocked if Calzaghe dominates Kessler in the same way as he dominated Lacy who believed in his own hype, was over reliant on his left hook power and seemed unable to change his gameplan or fight style. Kessler seems to have no weaknesses as such; the only question is whether he can deal with Calzaghe's speed and style. I find it easier to identify weaknesses in Calzaghe actually; frequent hand trouble, allowing himself to be drawn in to brawls, and being open to right hands. Also, Calzaghe is older than when he fought Lacy and has been through that war with Sakio Bika. It is possible to imagine a situation where Calzaghe gets decked by a Kessler right hand, gets up, fires back but damages his hand in the process. Kessler is no Evans Ashira - Calzaghe will never beat him with one hand. Calzaghe will bravely fight on but, falling behind on points and taking too much punishment, his Dad Enzo will pull him out between rounds as Joe protests that he wants to continue. Afterwards, he'll realise that his Dad did the right thing and he'll have to decide whether to retire or go for the rematch. His pride will say rematch but retirement will be the smart and right option. Well, it's a definite possibility! You heard it here first!
Give me a reason why my analysation is wrong, other than the fact that you don't like Calzaghe and want to see him lose.
I'd rather see Calzaghe call it quits after Kessler even though I'd love to see him continue, but enough is enough in my opinion and if he was able to succeed for this long then he's better off quitting before he does the hard painful way. We can both agree on this fact, if Calzaghe loses one fight he's instantly called an overrated bum by the majority so any Calzaghe fight is risky for his reputaiton, not to forget that he's not that young anymore either. Either a fight with Dawson or retire if he beats Kessler next, I know a fight with Hopkins is possible, if that can happen then he can go for that and retire a champion after it.
Being a complete amateur here, but couldn't this fight turn out like Hamed - Barrera in 2001. The awkward fighter being Calzaghe
Sorry there is all ready a thread for that topic http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12346
He said he only wants 2 more after Kessler, if he trashes Kessler badly like I am predicting and looks great, why not? He's been in no wars and the guys a freak physically in terms of reflexes and takes care of himself well. If he looks great and feels fine, he should take two more legacy fights and really define himself as one of the best of the generation. A unification with Bute would be a good start.
