Calzaghe throws combinations while Hamed was generally looking for the one big shot against Barrera.

Calzaghe is better than Hamed (although Hamed a much bigger puncher), and Barrera is better than Kessler.

So, I'd be amazed if this is anything like Hamed - Barrera.

If Calzaghe beats Kessler, he should fight Hopkins for the light heavyweight title and then retire.

That would be the perfect end in my opinion - he's always wanted to be a 2 division champion, fight a big name legend like Hopkins, get the credit he deserves and retire undefeated.

Why fight Dawson, Bute etc? Potentially great fights - maybe. But it's too late in his career and not worth the risk.

Hopefully he'll have the same good sense as the man who preceded him - Steve Collins. Collins wanted Roy Jones, but ended up being offered the fight against Calzaghe. He made the right decision and retired. Hopefully Calzaghe will get the dream fight he wants (Hopkins) but, if not, he should retire rather than fight anyone too dangerous and unknown like Dawson or Bute etc.

Collins was there at the right time. His toughness and ring savvy was enough for Eubank and Benn at that point in their careers. Collins would have liked a really big money fight, but a few hundred grand for losing to Calzaghe would have been pointless.

It is precisely not big names that JC should fight - it is the dangerous, live opponents, not the have beens with resonant names...that he should fight...it might not help him get further up the Ring rankings, but..who cares - boxing fans will know the difference and an unbiased history will judge him much more kindly, than if he just ticks off another old, big, beast.

I totally see your point. But, I think it's too late for Calzaghe to start fighting young, hungry, dangerous unknowns. Apart from Kessler of course :smooch

How many of those fights does he have left in him? Is it worth the risk?

Hopkins is still a dangerous, creditable opponent (Hopkins might even be the favorite?) and it would be worth the risk.

I remember during one of Calzaghe's fight, it may have been the Bika one, that Kessler unified the title against Beyer and that it was shown on TV.

Kessler looked impressive in that fight, but Beyer looked really poor. I know Catley knocked out Beyer, but exactly how much better is Calzaghe than Beyer in every department?

Not at all, I'm digging myself in a nasty hole if this isn't the case, but I am doing so calmly and arrogantly, I'm not even the least bit concerned.:yep

...I just got tired of objectivity, it got old.

Lacy is a quite one-dimensional and predictable fighter whereas Kessler is fairly good in almost all departments.

No way! even if Kessler loose there will be no similarities to Lacy.
Kessler is doing it perfect in boxing style, and i am sure he will stay cool, when Calzahge begin with he's pub style figthing.
Then he will take Calzaghe apart with straight punches, Calzaghe will be more and more desperat and the punishment will increase, until he gives up sitting in he's corner.

All I can say is if Calzzage spanks kessler the way he spanked lacy, people better give him his respect and not come out with the same **** saying that Kessler was overhyped and never that good to begin with and Calzage only took the fight because he knew it would be an easy win.
