Is Kessler the most overated boxer on this forum ?

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by BremnerBomber, Apr 28, 2009.

  1. Over the last few days the old Joe Calzaghe debate has cropped up again.... also we have been debating who should be ranked no1 at 168lb

Now Kessler always comes up in the Joe debates and he gets touted as a fantastic world class boxer afuture HOF er etc..., But I'm really struggling to see why !!

I admit I haven't followed his career very closely but can someone tell me why he is so loved on here ?

His whole reputation seems to have been built around losing to Calzaghe and his next biggest names on there are a mediorce Andrade and an old Markus Beyer ......after that I'm looking for names on his amazingly padded record but I'm not finding any reason why he is so highly thought of.

    Could someone please explain ?

I don't think so but I don't understand what Kessler and his promoter are doing. He could have already had 2 or 3 meaningful fights since the Calzaghe fight instead he is fighting bums for paper belts.

Kessler is a good fighter. He is wasting his Prime.

He's starting to **** everyone off with his inactivity at this stage, I think. But he's not the most overated fighter on ESB. Just like Calzaghe with Warren, Kessler is being kept on a leash by his promoter.

I think you have two things going on with Kessler.

1: You have the Calzombies who need Kessler to be an awesome future hall of famer in order to hype Joe.

2: If you look at styles, skills, physical attributes, et, Kessler matches up quite well with anyone at 168.

I would say Kessler is underrated. He's been written off since losing to Calzaghe.

Then again, his promotion team has done nothing for him since then.

You kind of have a point post Calzaghe - he's fought infrequently, and a poor calibre of fighter

    No way.
He's an excellent boxer with a good resume.
And I doubt anybody called him a HOFer.

  10. I agree he is a good boxer......... Just not as great as ppl say on here, although most of the guys bigging him up are Calzhage fans

Nope! Clearly, the most overrated boxer on ESB, by far, is Carl Froch.

Kessler gave Joe the fight of his life. Joe was just too intelligent and versatile. But still Kessler bombed the **** out of him in the 12th. In a rematch i dont doubt Kessler would come bombing from the start.

He's also destroyed or comfortably beaten everyone else he's fought. After Lacy was proved a product of hype, Kessler was far and away the best in the division. These days people are big on Andrade (and he deserves it) but Kessler totally dominated him.

Froch would be shut out and probably KOd by Kessler. Taylor would make for a good fight with Kessler, but if he gasses as always, then he'd be going down for the count. Outside of Bute i dont see anyone giving him problems at the weight (I still pick him over Bute)

Stop talking **** on him for being inactive after Calzaghe. Its common knowledge that stems from his complete **** of a promoter Palle. Add to that none of the big names want to fight him and what's he meant to do?

I rate the guy extremely highly and cant see anyone around his weight beating him.

Kessler is an elite level fighter that is not fighting enough elite level opposition.(Not all hes fault).

The kessler/calzaghe fight gets kessler a lot of praise because it was such a high level fight. Very high level of fighting, technically great etc. Even( i seem to remember) emmanuel steward was on hes feet after some round which was top quality stuff.

Hes an elite level fighter so hes not overrated but he needs to face the better opposition out there. Part of the problem is you (i bet) not liking calzaghe. Calzaghe is a great fighter...kessler fought him well and lost- doesnt mean kesslers overrated now.

In Joes own words "Kessler is a good fighter but not an outstanding one" he doesnt do anything badly and with the current crop of Super middleweights apart from Froch he is the best, that does not make him a future hall of famer and please will you bitter yanks stop having a pop at Joe, why cant you just say yeah he was a one off and one of the greats, one of my all time favourite boxers Hopkins fought a close battle with Joe because they were both legends of the Ring.
