with the inactivity and fighting at the level hes been fighting at i'm convinced that if hes to fight martinez next, martinez will do a job on him, i think franks done a terrible job on him, fighting bums and being out of the ring for prolonged periods is surely going to take its toll
He's not finished, he hasn't even got started. Except for Johannesson he's done nothing. I don't think his style makes for a long career anyway, but he's fresh. Too fresh, he needs to get in the ring more often with decent fighters. I don't think Martinez is too good but it would be a stupid move to put him in now when he's been inactive coming off a win against a bum where he didn't look too good. Mitchell needs to get in the gym, spar regularly, talk with Frank Warren and start getting some competitive fights under his belt. He should aim for Ricky Burns, that would be the sort of fight both need to see who moves on another level.
To be fair Kos, he's not getting younger and he looked terrible last week. I know it was a tune up but he needs another before Martinez thats for sure. definately NOT finished though. Hope he starts getting rounds in against decent opponents
He had a long lay off due to hand surgery- the hands are quite an important thing to boxers so it's undrstandable:blood. Also, I think Mitchell will be found out soon as well- exciting as hell to watch but once someone is able to absorb what he has and then come back with more at his non-existent defence, it's a loss, IMO.
Yeah, I agree that he needs another fight (based on the reports from the last fight), but the thread starters choice of word, 'finished' is far too strong of a word even if he were to lose to Martinez.
His career aint finished but he's in danger of losing momentum and losing everything he had going for him. I don't think he's a great fighter but he defiantly could pick up a world title.
I don't think he looked that bad.....seems to me he was just getting some rounds in the early part of the fight....he did get caught with a couple shots. He turned on the style when he needed to and finished well against a tough journeyman.
I think his defence is what's stopping him going on to better things. Estrada hit him at will it was near embarrassing. Not sure if Cooks the right trainer for him at this point in his career. He hasn't improved him in the last few years and i like to see that defence looked at.
The guy is 24. I really do not understand why they are pushing him for a world title after the lay off. Without the injury, I am sure he would have defended his british title a few times agaisnt Foster Jnr, maybe a Burns match. really i do not see why that doesnt happen.
Yeah i know what your saying...sometimes it's the fighter himself. Maybe Kevin is making demands of world title shots. Young fighters nowdays get ahead of themselves. I think he needs some good International U.S learning fights like the Estrada fight.
At 24 he has a lot of improving to do I think he will become World Champion and expect Warren to build him up into his next PPV star in the next 18 months. If the rumours are true about Khan leaving Warren then Kevin Mitchell is the best person for Warren to make money out of. I think Mitchell will be around for couple more years I cant wait to see him step up to world class level to see just how good he can be.
