Khan wants to go to 147 after this fight to chase bigger fights.

Is this a mistake. Khan can get bullied around by 140 fighters like PEDerson.

He comfortably makes weight and eats meals on weigh ins.

Is it a mistake going up to welter. He'd have to put on muscle which will slow him down.

What do you think. Do you reckon he should stay at 140 or move up to 147?

Khan walks around at about 160 lbs. Fighting at 147 will probably be better for him.

Yes but that is where the big money fights are so I can't blame him.

Khan will be more natural at 147.

Don't look too much into PEDerson fight, he was 155 on the night that's like Khan fighting a 147 fighter while being at 140.

No he does not walk around at 160 you absolute bafoon.

And OP yes it is a mistake he gets pushed around by 140lbers, real welterweights will throw him around like a rag doll, bad move.

Amir has a terrible chin and 147 fighters pack bigger punches. His power, which isn't great already at 140, will be even less effective on the bigger men at 147

I think if Khan began sitting on his shots, his natural strength could easily carry him thru welter.

No reason for him to turn away from the big money b/c he got caught cold once vs a banger. I think if he wanted, he could put some weight into his legs and bulk up to LMW even, although I don't know if he'd be nearly as effective since his game revolves around his movement.:think

Poor decision for a number of reasons.

    1. Might effect his speed and conditioning by carrying that extra muscle on his frame.
    2. His power isn't great as it is. It will be even less effective at 147.
    3. He'll be taking harder punches at 147 and I already question his chin.

For Khan size and height 5'10 he is more than ready to move up, fact is Khan has some skinny legs, the extra 7lbs would help them legs bulk up and improve his balance and power by have a stronger base to fire from.

I think it's around the mid 150s. Khan said so a while back. Whether that's changed or not, I don't know.

This week during the Vegas workouts, (on Wednesday were they?), SkySports reported him him to be two pounds off the weight limit. Ruben Tabares has recently stated that he's been making sure Khan has been able to eat normally everyday of this week. Apparently he had a bit of carbs before bed last night, and breakfast this morning.

So, to me it seems like he still makes the weight fine. And with his punching power, punch resistence and physical strength in mind, I personally think he'd be better off facing 140 fighters than he would 147.

Despite Khan's height, his frame is thin. The extra muscle will impair his conditioning and speed as his ligaments and tendons aren't "designed" to carry that muscle optimally as a boxer.

    its a great move

    think about it

Floyd in jail is out of the picture

Manny on the slide has other fights

Bradley is a champion and a high profile fighter now, there is a story there that is sellable and the guy is a 140 guy who moved up not yet a full blown welter

Alexander a 140 guy former champ who unified a good fighter and would be an interesting 147 fight a back story

You have other lingering guys who would be interesting Jones Berto Ortiz and others

plus in modern day boxing you have to win titles at multiple weights to be a mega star

plus he can try for Bradley then mobilize that possible win into a fight with Floyd

Khan can be effective at 147, put more weight on legs and keep the handspeed. People say his not a big puncher, but by moving up, his power would as well. Anyway speed kills, and its punches you don't see that hurt you.

He'd be ok at 154 too, depending on opponent. He'd probably weigh 150 for a jmw fight.

So then it would be accurate to say that he walks around at about 160 lbs. Khan is about 5'10" and is entering his mid 20's. A move to WW will good for Khan. People make a bigger deal out of the weight than it really is.
