The Hatton fight had many excuses like the time difference and fighting in the opponents hostile home stadium. Not to mention KT's age and physical appearance when entering the ring. However i can never let the Vince Phillips defeat get excused at any level. KT was champ,he was young, he was hungry and he thought he was invincible....................he got hammered at his prime atsch
I don't see how he's not top 3 in a general consensus. He's certainly top 3 H2H at the weight. I also don't like it when Mosely is said to be an ATG, it's simply not the case. These DLH fans who claim 'he only lost to ATG's' get on my nerves. But, Mosely is surely an ATG 'H2H' at 135-140, Mosely - Duran at 135 would have been a blast, but I'd be very confident on a Duran decision victory in a 12 and a Duran TKO in a 15.:yep
Unifying the Lt WW belt was an exceptional achievement but, his TKO loss if Philips was inexcuseable and marred his excellent wins. So, on the borderline of ATG but, leaning towards no. However, if he comes back and beats Floyd then maybe.
If Arron Pryor gets ATG status then so does Kostya Tszyu He was a great fighter, he just didnt get all the fights and resume I would have like to seen him get.
Accomplishments, I have him top 3. In terms of head to head, do you count Whitaker or Duran who only had a few fights at 140?
I wouldn't consider him a top 10 fighter of this era, but I've seen some place him there, no real problems with it, he's one of the ones on the edge for me.
Pryor beat two greats in Cervantes and Arguello, both convincingly, something Kostya never did. He rates higher than Kostya, both in a greatness sense and in a H2H sense.
He was a great boxer. I would have to say yes, but out of the top of my head I would rank himn behind Chavez and Pryor and maybe Whitaker.:think
Mike Tyson lost to Douglas in his. Lennox Lewis lost to Hasim Rahman?? Point being?? Tszyu was ahead at the time of stoppage. He has also stated many times that he was still very raw and the Phillips loss taught him alot. Some people forget he had shoulder problems which restricted his activity in the ring. Not to mention tearing his achilles tendon. Kostya is a atg forsure. He was great in both the amateurs(with over 300bouts)and pro ranks. He aint the greatest of his division but still a great.
Without a doubt! :good Defeated: 5 undefeated boxers 7 boxers with 1 loss Sneak over to boxrec....and see the caliber of opponents in his 10th, 11th, and 12th fights. He was duckee....not the ducker...during his career.
Kostya is a great fighter with an achilies heal. He's not an endurance athlete. If you can stand up to his pressure and take him to the trenches he gasses. It takes a special style of fighter to do that though, and its no certainty that Floyd Mayweather, who is an ATG, could do it. 'Styles make fights is an addage that rings true more for Kostya than any other. That's True but he didn't so much get 'hammered'..Kostya lost that fight because of his own ego..he stood there and traded right hands as he was tiring and sort of let himself get punched out..kind of like when Tyson got knocked out by Williams and McBride. Kostya was well ahead on the cards when he got Knocked out. He could have fought a few defensive rounds but for some reason he didnt. Kostya was a hugely talented boxxed and the hardest puncher ever in the division. No light Welter in history would be a certainty against him except maybe Pryor.
