Is Kotelnik a decent level of opponent for Khan at this stage of his career?

I've seen very little of this Kotelnik guy.

Khan made comments recently slating this guy, calling him the worst world champ ever. So that makes me think Khan and FW have just gone for the weakest guy in or around Khan's weight class - which isn't a particualrly admirable thing to do.

As for the right time, right opponent thing. I would have liked to have seen him beat a few more credible opponents before stepping up. Defeating a half blind elderly midget in your last fight doesn't make you a world beater.

    Yes decent level.

Nobody could claim he is an amazing fighter or anything close to elite, but he's a very good solid fighter that makes few mistakes.

Kotelink is the WBA champ at 140 so he is no bum. The lad has a good set of skills and decent power plus he appears to be pretty tough. Khan is going up in weight and class for this fight and he is still young and improving. Hopefully Kotelink will give Khan a few rounds but I really expect the Brit to have gained a stoppage win by half way.

Yes decent match up. By no means a monster of a champion but a champion nonetheless. Khan won't blow him out (barring a horribly bad TKO stoppage decision by the ref due to one of his 'flurries') and will most likely have to go 12. So assuming he doesn't stop Kotelnik it will be interesting to see how long it takes for him to slow down and if, and when, he slows down it will be interesting to see what happens.

very stern test in my opinion, if he deals with Kotelnik impressively Khan will go up in my estimation.

This guy smacked the **** out of Gavin Rees and I would guess Rees is much more durable than Khan, I think Khan, Warren & Co are underestimating this guy.

If I'm right he has a SD loss to Witter, Junior would decapitate Khan.

He's a good level of opponent.

Kotelnik is a solid operator with all the key fundamentals of the game at his disposal, but does not appear to excel in any particular area. He'll be a stiff test for Khan.

    I think its a solid 50-50 fight.

Def a good level of oppositon for Khan...bearing in mind he took Witter the distance in a close fight an you dont get to be a world champion jus like that!!?
He has clearly earned his right to be champion...
Now its Khan's turn to step up to the plate....

He didn't really. Rees gave him a tough fight but punched himself out

Kotelnik is OK, he is one of those guys who can't dominate a fight, but is hard to dominate in return.

He's a very tough opponent for a 21 fight 'novice' IMO but on the other hand he's a good stylistic matchup for Khan - he doesn't have big power, has quite a low work rate/level of aggression, should be beatable from the outside...

Khan gets stopped here, Kotelnik is tall so Khan will not be able to stay away. He takes a punch and Khan does not have a punch. He is a solid hitter and Khan has a poor chin.
