Is Kovalev-Beterbiev fight next? I'd like to see it more than Kovalev-Stevenson. I think Kovalev-Stevenson fight would be missmatch, where Kovalev knocks out Adonis in 5 rounds. Kovalev-Beterbiev is the only interesting fight available in LHW. Beterbiev doesn't need more time, he has a lot of amateur fights and is already ranked in top 5. Just make it happen!
Highly unlikely. It would mean that Mohammedi would have to take step aside money once again or Kova loses the IBF belt. And it's probably a harder and less finacial attractive fight too. So Kova would risk his belts and the chance to become undisputed for a huge payout. Would be a stupid career move.
Stevenson vs Beterbiev before Stevenson vs Kovalev? Really? What about the purse bid and their (Stevenson and Beterbiev's) promoter Yvon Michel previously saying that he didn't want to match them up against each other?
I'm going off of what an employee of Al's and of pbc's is saying. Whenever anyone mentions Kovalev vs Stevenson on Malinaggi's Twitter, Paulie keeps saying that Beterbiev-Stevenson is waaaay more likely and if anything it seems like all roads are leading to Beterbiev-Stevenson, that's probably why they were on same card in more or less showcase fights. So if someone inside the pbc circle is saying Beib-Stevenskn then I'm going to take their word for it
I wasn't implying you were making it up it was just a genuine query given what Michel had previously said regarding matching them up together and the purse bid for Stevenson-Kovalev only days away. It's surprising if true.
GYM signed Beterbiev before Stevenson became a world champion though. Beterbiev actually made his debut on the undercard of Stevenson vs Dawson, but they signed him a few months prior to that and had been in negotiations with him for a while before that trying to get him to sign with them too. Berterbiev was one of the most sought after amateurs in the world and a lot of promoters would've wanted his signature on the dotted line. "It was not a question of money, it was a question of having a plan and a good staff," said Michel. "He was not looking for a short-term, big bonus, although he had offers in that direction (from promoters in Germany and the U.S.) that we would not have been able to compete with. "He came here twice to see our (fight) cards and he made up his mind. When he came back the second time, he brought his boxing gear."
