What do you guys think? Is it all over for him at the elite level? Does he need a new team? Does he have other issues which were alluded to during the Ward fights?
They say "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" — that's about Kovalev. So, if he returns he will be almost exactly the same...
He would've beat Alvarez last night had he fought a little smarter IMO but after last nights defeat he's done at the top level.
Listen i had Kovalev 5-1 after 6 rounds ,first round was close one since both fighters were cautious at the start of the fight [ 50/50 first round i gave it to Kovalev anyway ] and then Alvarez took the 2nd round clearly and Kovalev tried to take Alvarez out in rounds 3 and 4, especially round 4 Alvarez caught some beating and then Kovalev gassed a bit but still won rounds 5 and 6 then got caught with big right hand and thats it. Before some say that this is a lame score, official judges had it Kovalev 5-1 and other two 4-2 Kovalev also.First round was very close. And some jokes like Alvarez was about to get robbed by judges are hilarious. The only robbery was Ward Kovalev first fight in which Kovalev won easily 8-4 + a knock down.Ward may be won 3 rounds max actually, there is no way he won 7 rounds except if u give him all competitive rounds and even then too. Alvarez won the same way against Bute actually when you think about it and if you seen that fight. He had decent speed and jab and chin but overall nothing special of a fighter. He isnt better than Pascal in his prime or Dawson prime or something like that. Kovalev can win a rematch but overall he is done since he is even slower now and abyssmal stamina and this team of his is joke too.
He just has a bad reaction to hard punches anymore. I was actually afraid for him after the 1st knockdown. The look on his face was not good. You've made some good money and had a good career Kova, no shame in calling it a day
Exactly. That's why I always laugh when people have hope for these 30+ year old fighters who try and revamp their career. It almost never works out.
He could still probably beat Stevenson. And id still like to see that fight. Maybe he should just bet on himself and take a lowball offer to get the fight done. But Stevenson agree to ANY terms to fight him?
I hope he calls it a career. I could understand wanting a rematch (which he will lose) but other than that, it will just end in embarrassment.
