This fight seems to have caught the interest of many fans with opinions on who will win being pretty evenly divided. My question is (with a poll to come) will this be a win/win for boxing no matter which warrior wins it? If Kovalev wins we're ushering in what appears to be a sure fire superstar. A guys who brings a great level of excitement to capture the attention of the casual fan as well as the hatdcore. If Hopkins wins it will capture the attention of casuals as well being nearly 50 years old and being able to beat a young beast Like Kov, a fighter many are saying is the best in the division and certainly the most feared. I just dont see how any fan of the sport can think either guy winning doesnt enhance boxings popularity.

No one will care if Hopkins wins. He will face someone else and be the underdog again. Just like he was the underdog against Cloud.

Come on, thats like saying no one cared when Foreman won. The world was shocked and excited. I think it would be the same if Hop could pull this out.

Freedom2013 thinks it will only be good if Kovalev wins, but wont explain himself. I would wonder why, but we all already know!

I think that is probably untrue. It's a cliche marketing scheme for Hopkins, but it's really ramped up in the past few years since he broke the record for oldest fighter to win a title. Hopkins is a spoiler, but I have since gotten renewed interest in his fights. Each fight could be his last.

Kovalev is exciting, but not the best tactician. He is however highly skilled from the mid-range with his varied attack. However he's over-matched for most of his opponents so I'm pretty much only interested in seeing him against top competition. Unless HBO can get him Stevenson if he should get past BHOP I don't think he will have interesting opponents.

    Sergey Kovalev:

    1. an exciting fighter who wins while fighting by the rules and doesn't need head butts and other illegal tactics.

    2. seems to be a good man and a good sport.

    3. not a criminal

    Bernard Hopkins:

    1. a boring, defense-first spoiler who heavily relies on illegal tactics and usually painful to watch.

    2. a crybaby who whines after his losses and sometimes pretends to be hurt by fouls and even fakes injuries.

2 of the top fighters in a division actually fighting each other should happen more often.

So why is it only good for boxing if Kov wins? Youre dancing around my points instead of tackling them head on. We already know why you dont like Hopkins, i want to.hear you refute what i posted.

Especially in a day and age where Floyd & Pac have been jerking the fans around for years like a couple of scum bags. Hopkins and Kovalev should both be applauded. It's a risky fight on both ends, and one that either one of them could have easily avoided if they followed the typical business mold so many boxers adhere to these days.

Those are 2 of the fighters I was alluding to, but I don't think we should even mention their names this week.
I'd rather talk about fighters who actually want to fight each other and got the deal done and signed in 3 hours. That's bad ass.

You people realize Hopkins was the underdog against freaking Shumenov.

Smoking crack if you think this is going to be celebrated.

    I am picking Hopkins.

This will be nothing like Foreman. Hopkins was the underdog to Shumenov. Did you see parades for that win? :rofl

of course it is.the only way it isn't is if hopkins tries to pull off what he did in the first dawson fight which is fake an injury to get out of the fight or gets dq'd.
