Hopkins wont be celebrated because of his style, but because of who he beat if he happens to win. Shumenov is a far cry from Kovalev, most know this now, if he wins MANY more will and him being nearly 50 and doing it will be the story line.

Yeah but look at what you're saying about Shumenov. But Shumenov was the favorite going into the fight.

The same exact thing would happen with Kovalev.

    Endless cycle.

Shumenov did not have a trainer, never had one. Shumenov claims he learned to box by watching Bruce Lee Movies..............Shumenov was an untrained fighter, Kovalev is far above Shumenov or Dawson. Hopkins will fall down on the canvas and try to get a disqualification like he did Dawson........................Hopkins' referee, judges, boxing commission, etc. Head butts, holding, low blows, elbows, etc., Hopkins will have to cheat to have any chance.................Kovalev should knock Hopkins out, but Hopkins' referee will protect Hopkins, watch and see...........................Wonder if Hopkins hired Laurence Cole?

I don't think anyone's expecting tickertape parades or the sport to suddenly become mainstream but overall any high profile fight where two of the top guys in a division square off has to be a positive.

The way I see it, a Hopkins win raises the profile of the sport (albeit only by a small margin in the wider scheme) and represents a great achievement by a living legend whereas a Kovalev win represents a passing of the torch to member of a younger generation who's exciting but also seems to genuinely want to test himself at the top level.

As for Shumenov - hell Kovalev might be a ways from being a mainstream star but Shumenov was so far off the map when it came to mainstream notice he might as well have been from another planet.

And bookies favourite or not, forum polls here and on other sites indicted that at least those who follow the sport knew that Beibut was no real threat to Hopkins
(hell, if I'd known that Shumenov was a betting favourite I woulda put some £s down, and I never bet money 'cos I can't afford to lose it).

If you start comparing Shumenov with Kovalev then your reasoning holds no water because Kovalev completely destroyed the guy that had outboxed Shumi before Hopkins did and Kovalev also showed he was the better boxer in that fight.
So there are at least one and a half levels between those boxers and also you do understand that their latest results are also why the odds are this way. If B-Hop hadn't fought and beaten Shumi the odds would probably have been even wider.

On topic again. This surely is a win/win for boxing. Only some disgraceful decision or event could ruin that.

Im not comparing styles. Both had belts. Shumenov was the favorite. Hopkins won. No one cared.

And LOL at you using triangle theories. Then trying to say my argument holds no water.

Are you saying bookies dont follow the sport? I dont know what polls you're talking about.

But if you're saying fan polls are more accurate. Just lol.

You people cant see everyone writing off Kovalev as a exposed hype job if he loses?

Then in the exact post saying Shumenov was never really that good. Of course you're going to say that. BECAUSE HE LOST. The same thing would happen with Kovalev.

And the "boxing hardcores" all said Shumenov had a great chance of winning.

Just another day on the forums. People rewriting history based on the results of the fight. Completely ignoring the situation going into the fight.

No one is saying he wasnt good, only that hes not on the same level as Kovalev and no where as dangerous.

That Shumi had a belt is part of my point, he shouldn't have had one anymore, same with Cloud.
Triangle theories don't always hold up, but it's clear Shumenov is nowhere near Kovalev in class and power. And he still could find Hopkins once in a while.

Kovalev threatened to kill Skillacka racially abused him after he had knocked him down.

Still, he's far from being the racist Klan Man you are.

    He ain't no boxing fan.

Hop is 50 years old and is taking on the biggest bogey man in boxing who has been Krushing guys literally half his age and he wants him to get knocked out for it.

Hopkins deserves only the upmost respect for taking this fight. Remember the other champ in his physical prime ran in fear over to Showtime.

I'll be rooting for Hopkins for having the balls and attempting to make history.
