GGG was hyped for years actually. A good part of the boxing community knew about him and his amateur pedigree. Sturm knew him too well, that's why he ducked him for years when GGG was the mando.

    but,

he came from nowhere too. he's also an unknown fighter before he got that first belt

and to compare with kovalev, thread title is "best fighter"... so we all know who is better of the two

you can't say at this point of time that kovalev's is the better fighter

In many ways Pacquiao went traditional Asian route. Win OPBF then win world. He not come out of nowhere if you from this side of world. Only American think he come from nowhere.

Win over Chockchivat put him on people radar on this part of world. Then win over Sasakul was big.

Amnat have no name win before he beat Fuentes. No Chockchivat equivalent. He really come out of nowhere.

No it wasn't out of the blue.

I had been hearing his praises sung for years before everyone else started jumping on his jock when he went to HBO. A lot of folk had watched all of his fights before picking up his interim and regional titles and what not, longer than I have.

I knew about him before he was gift wrapped his WBA title in 2009. I watched his Simon fight (which was in some garage), the Ouma fight had people yelling "hypejob" back when that happened and then had others in defense mode, I watched the Fuchigama fight live when it happened and everyone was going nuts.

Maybe that's why people wonder how I don't like his fans... Maybe because I've seen them manifest out of thin air the moment he gets televised in the USA and all of a sudden Proksa is Ken Norton and Rosado is Jerry Quarry. Nobody remembers how he got his WBA title because most of you casuals had never seen him or knew anything about him, etc. back then.

And why was he so talked about for such limited quality professional wins throughout that whole time??? Well, maybe because of a very successful amateur career.

^ Nothing about Golovkin was "out of the blue."

The only thing "out of the blue" regarding Golovkin was when he finally stepped up to face a top 10 Middleweight in Matthew Macklin. All I could think was, "bout freakin' time! Literally YEARS for that to happen and he claimed to be a legit title holder the whole time."

Some people really do only watch what HBO and Showtime buy... sad.

Sergio Martinez spent the better part of a decade, fighting in town halls in Spain and Argentina, and then in a 2 year period, he went from fighting guys with 3-35 records to fighting Williams
