big beast, scary KO artist, looks unbeatable but what will he do when he meets someone like Beterbiev ?
Are you insinuating you want to see someone cause Kovalev permanent brain damage? If it is, then this is a pretty sick thread.
FFS where did I say that? Gerald was an awesome, beast of a fighter, without mentioning the tragic outcome of the fight i'm talking about whether Kovalev would be able to deal with a certain style of fighter, its sick that you would think of it like that, why can't GM's career and fight be talked about?
Kovalev doesn't look unbeatable, neither did McClellan. As to Beterbiev, he turned already the Kovalev fight down.
I remember as a kid thinking GM was unbeatable, I know he had lost on points but he seemed so exxciting I couldn't imagine him losing other than on points, similar to Kovalev and GGG, but being a Benn fan I was cheering Benn on even though I have to admit I though GM would win
Other than them being both big punchers I don't really see the comparison. Kovalev is unbeaten, McClellan showed he could be out pointed in 2 early losses. Kovalev has shown he can beat an elite level boxer in Hopkins not by overpowering them but by out boxing them, McClellan never did that, he never showed that he was more than just big and powerful. Kovalev has that extra dimension. Kovalev doesn't kill himself to make weight to feast on smaller fighters like McClellan did. Kovalev also has an experienced team around him and doesn't seem to have the instability around him that McClellan had.
That wasn't the question. I don't think anyone looks like they can beat DeGale, but I wouldn't describe him as "unbeatable". There's footage out there of Kovalev being knocked out cold, he has been down at least once in his pro career and shown vulnerabilities on a number of occasions. I don't consider him unbeatable or even close to it. He's 31 years old, IBF mandatory, WBA #3, WBO #2, has beaten two former world champions, is Ring top 10 and has beaten Kovalev before - so yes, I do. Do you expect him to wait until he's 35?
Hopkins was a good decade past elite when he fought Kovalev. He was just a decent boxer by then, with a very padded recent fight history up to that fight. It's not a win to be super proud about. It's the equivalent of Enzo KOing Roy, for real. His win against Pascal is a far more credible win, even at that Pascal is not elite.
Valera lost by shut out to Kashtanov and got a gift and yes I'm one of the 3 people on this forum to actually see that match. Valera is completely worthless at the highest level, Alvarez barely eked by Chilemba and was rocked repeatedly by Prieto neither have close to a chance. And why would I say what I said about McClellan, when he finally met his match he ended up brain damaged not a huge leap since you brought Beterbiev.
Not what Beterbiev's promoter said, it was a career-high offer for Beterbiev. Fight was due to take place in Moscow on November 28th.
on RDS (french version of espn) they reported differently than that. does Yvon Michel even speak english? It was something on the lines of "thanks for the offer but we'd rather have 1-2 fights between that so Beterbiev will be offered better pay than you are offering him"
Lol no, it was "we'd rather fight an eliminator to win the title shot that you're already offering us". The slated eliminator at the time was against Hopkins but they knew fine well a Hopkins fight wouldn't be happening.
