Kovalev turned pro 6 years ago. Also, his first world title fight has already been 2 years ago so it took him 4 years as a pro to step up to world level.
McG took less time to get a world title shot. this only further underlines the difference. the comparison is now even poorer, thanks. though obviously its a given that ko4clev started later and so reaches his potential later.
because McClellan was the beast when I started watching boxing, as for Tyson he was his own worst enemy, and yeah your threads are always good reads, just maybe stop jumping to conclusions, shame I had to explain why I am a GM fan
Kovalek started much later than McClellan, but McClellan's resume of wins was pretty weak regardless. The early 90s was indeed an extremely talented middleweight crop, but very few matchups between them took place, surely thanks in no small part of Don King and always wanting future options on fighters. Julian Jackson was a hell of a junior middleweight, and still a dangerous puncher at middleweight, but on the decline and had a serious eye injury with the detached retina. It had taken him some extra time to get licensed to defend the title he won from Herol Graham, and his opposition was middling from then to the G-Man fight. John Mugabi, like Jackson, was a dangerous puncher who was on the decline. Not really much else to talk about on G-Man's win resume.
but a year for year comparison is important when one fighters career has been curtailed severely. in that respect McG progressed faster, even when you account for age/late start.
