Like ALL HW eras he was underated at the time he fought bc boxing fans are blind and refuse to acknowledge the present bc they find it hard to believe that a current fighter is actually that good ( hint , hint) ..... Holmes is very underated when Ali comes up...the fact is he was a better skilled fighter then Ali and would pose major problems bc each relies on a jab and Holmes jab was better and by good margin. Holmes could be included in any head to head list even with the reliance on a jab bc without it he was a fish out of water like Wlad Klitchko. If people actually paid attention to the fights they would realize he defeated Spinks the second time and won comfortabley in fights they say he lost...this is the problem with just looking at resume on the computer screen. Holmes is a very unique fighter and one of the best boxing brains to have ever been in the ring you cant really underrate him he gets credit ,maybe not enough from what I see and then too much once in awhile, bc he was not unbeatable against certain guys had he fought them.
I am not wrong. Holmes ducked fighters and bragged about it. You started this with personal insults. I have a right to say anything I like about Holme's career. This is my last response. I really suggest you find something to do with yourself that does not wind you up so much. The facts are always going to be the facts. Your emotions don't change them. I used to own the magazines with the quotes, like when he outright said that he wouldn't fight Thomas because he can't beat him.
I spend too much time arguing with idiots anyway. Probably be good for me. But again, not saying you. Good luck to you.
I'm 53 yrs old man I not only owned the magazines but lived through the times. I know what he said and why he said it. And yea I'm tired of arguing with idiots too
I think it's interesting that when Ring magazine published a "best ive faced Earnie Shavers " Shavers said Larry Holmes was the best fighter he ever fought. ( I expected him to say you know who)
The Ali that Shavers actually faced was not near as good a fighter as the peak Holmes he faced. He was many many years past his best. Picking Holmes is logical.
