Louis was quite a slow economic shuffler I do not see it Rez, not at all.

    Economical footwork =\ foot speed

Louis was sharp on his feet, and would step in and out of range quickly. His speed was more apparent in his explosive bursts of attacks.

He’s about as much of a shuffler as Floyd Mayweather

Lewis is a touch matchup for anybody. You could never say Lewis was tailor-made for anybody. He might be H2H the best heavyweight to ever do it.

Nothing sustained however, its easy to be quick on the attack coming forward a different thing when creating angles, moving in retreat or creating options on the go. His was highly efficient however but not nimble in my eyes.

Lewis struggled with Bruno as well as Mercer one who had not won a fight in years was out of shape and lost to senior citizen Holmes he was also flatlined by Oliver and Rahman. The H2H GOAT could not afford to suffer against relatively mediocre opposition and old men so consistently.

An impossible question to answer, however I think Ali has the best claim.

Neither has any great fight guaranteeing advantage. Lennox's size will be a good asset but Louis has chopped down big men before. Lewis of course is much better than the big men Joe did fight.

Either could win. Joe will have to work hard to get into range against Lewis but when he does get there he's silly dangerous. Either could turn this fight on it's head with a well times punch.

I wouldn't argue too hard either way personally.

Louis had deceptively good footwork. Here's an excerpt from Cox's Corner.

"Louis footwork was subtle, he inched towards opponents, then took small steps back to draw them into his punches. It is what it was for a reason. Louis footwork was designed for a long fight, to waste no energy and maintain his knockout punch to the last second of the last round so if he nailed his opponent he would have the energy left to go all out and finish him. He had fights scheduled for as long as 20 rounds, so dancing around like a bunny rabbit is not a good idea if you have to fight 20 round fights, you are going to run out of gas or be dead tired in the late rounds, then the guy who has conserved his energy is going to send you to dreamland. All of the durability in the world wont save you when you have ran out of gas. Further Louis could cut the ring pretty well, and make guys use up there energy running from him. As Ali once said, (The Greatest- Auto-biography p 405) "It's impossible to last 15 rounds if you have to take six steps to your opponents three." Joe also used his footwork to draw his opponents in and then explode on them. Don't under-estimate Louis footwork"

I mimic a similar shuffling steps (albeit more swift in Napoles) Louis had good footwork he just was not nimble is all I was saying he was as textbook perfect as they came and was never out of position too punch.

You're not giving Bruno and Mercer enough credit, they were excellent fighters.

They were not great in there primes at all, good but no champions and had seen much better days when Lennox struggled with them. He consistently struggled with mediocre opponents- If you want to believe Lennox is the GOAT you would need to greatly up the status of quite a large number of boxers. Lewis simply is no Ali.
