I'd favour Lewis over Louis. Joe is p4p better but Lewis has a lot more lbs and he knows how to maximise them. The difference between guys like Buddy Baer and somebody like Lewis is that Lennox is a giant who is a world class boxer in addition to being big.
From McCall forward (when Lewis started training under Steward and entering his best) what mediocre opponents did Lewis "struggle" with? You say he "consistently struggled" and from McCall forward is a whopping 9 year span so i would expect to see quite a lot of names.
I'm not sure Bruno had "seen much better days". He cruised along at a pretty level standard for many years. Mercer is another that cruised along pretty steadily.
That's the funny thing about Bruno, he never really ages or changed much imo, right up to his last fight against Tyson. Then he fell to pieces fast. A lot of heavy s as we know, in their last few years fighting are showing signs of the old motor running down, but not Frank as such. Maybe cos he was such a bloody health fitness freak??
Ive had this argument with people too many times to bother- Thomas it is late, I am not single, it is Easter tomorrow and I have chocolate to hide. I’ll possibly make a thread of it another time.
Suppose after Tyson battered him and did his eye in he knew that was it, John. But for all his keeping fit, it didn't do his mental health any good. Poor bloke.
Well I'll make it really easy for you Kaze to save you some egg hiding time. In 9 years he only really struggled with two fighters - Mercer and Rahman. I'd call neither mediocre but to each their own. Most scored him close over Mercer and he almost beheaded Rahman in the rematch. Not too bad over a 9 year period and certainly not what one would call consistently struggled.
You'll struggle to find the heavyweight that hasn't struggled with mediocre opponents. Just the nature of the beast really.
Think he is, had a few occasions spent in the hospital s with break down. Split from his wife, Laura?, and really went down hill for a while. Was sleeping in an actual ring at one point, that's how bad he got. Last time I saw him on the Tyson documentary he seemed better than he had been but still can see he's affected in his behavior if you ask me. But hes still doing better John than a lot of other past champ s.
