Somewhere in the middle. Not amazing but not bad either. Just decent. He took some lethal shots from Vitali.

Closer to glass but also as Vegan points out he did take some monster shots from Vitali.

The ones that sparked him he didn't see coming.

Granite. Not the best ever, but he took huge shots from many powerful fighters.
He was negligent in protecting himself in 2 fights.
Maybe should have been allowed to continue against McCall-he pulls that one out, we might have almost nobody voting glass.
Frazier was down many times in 2 rounds vs. Foreman, but he was given the option to continue.
Lewis was unbalanced & undertrained, going backwards vs. a Rahman who was very powerful & training for a single punch KO.

    In the middle

He had some shaky moments throughout his career, but on the other hand you don’t eat shots off Vitali Klitschko if you have a glass chin

He was no Oliver McCall in terms of chin, but his jaw was decent enough. Lewis’ tendency to switch off at times cost him twice, but apart from those two occasions. he took some hard shots from some big strong lads without even going down, never mind being KO’d.

I remember hard punching Frank Bruno testing that chin on numerous occasions during their fight, with shots that would have put a buffalo to sleep. I remember the 3rd or 4th round Bruno caught Lewis with a clean shot that would’ve KO’d a glass jawed fighter, but Lewis took it well and carried on, despite looking as though he was hurt.

So somewhere in between glass and granite I’d say, but closer to granite.

Wasn't Lewis only dropped in two fights? If so how can be referred to as glass jaw?

I mean, you can have a great chin, but if you don't see a punch coming and you're not tensed, you can be knocked out by anyone with half decent power.

Lewis’ chin held up many times despite the two 1 punch KOs. So although obviously not granite, it is more towards that end of the spectrum.

He got 1 hit by Rahman and McCall but wasn't really taking them seriously when it happened. I'd say his biggest weakness is underestimating "easy wins" rather than his chin. He fought a lot of big punchers and either went the distance or stopped them. Tyson, Morrison, Mercer etc.

Either, since they're both hard as **** materials. Ever tried punching a solid piece of glass? You'd break your knuckles to pieces.
