is lennox lewis one of the greats?

Well, I recently wrote this on a Vitali Klitschko v Tyson thread :

But then again, I get accused of hating Tyson too.

I'm no lover of the Klitschkos either, but they deserve a little credit by now - Wladimir especially.

 

I don't see him as much different to Lewis, tbh.

 

Tyson deserves half of the hate he gets. Because he messed up his own career.

WK does deserve credit for the way hes come back and dominated his era, after his embarassing losses.
However, he does not belong in the league of Ali, Louis, Tyson

 

I agree.

He's certainly worthy of mention, but top 5 is crazy, IMO.

 

Lewis
a) avenged his losses
b) his losses were due to being cocky and not concentrating as opposed to Wlad who got straight butt raped.

Also Lennoxs resume is much better than WKs.

However, I can see where your coming from.

 

Show the Vitali fight to your kids and grandchildren if you think it was such a great win. It is simply not a good show case fight for Lewis in my opinion.

 

Hovers right around my top five at heavy so if that qualifies you as great, yeah.

I do think he is occasionally over rated head to head because of his size though and wasn't the great ring general people claimed him to be though.

Byrd would have gave him fits.

 

Or you could show them the win vs Holyfield when Holyfield was past prime which was boring and close to a draw.

 

I was just giving exsamples of what I meant by great wins and why I think Tyson and Holyfield are greater. A great fighter should have great wins like Holyfield has over Bowe and Tyson. Those two wins trump anything on Lewis resume in my opinion. Lewis has some good wins himself he is just not as great as Holfield and Tyson and that is just what I think.

 

Err... Bowe hid from Lewis like a ****ing girl so it was difficult to carry that pelt (although he stopped him in the amateurs)... and Lewis DID beat Holyfield and Tyson for what that matters. Were you even paying attention in the 90's and Aughts?

I can't stand Wlad. He's boring. He seems fragile and unwilling to mix it up. But he is dominant and has defended his title over and over. I think he's already inside the top 20 and his stock still has more time to rise.

As far as this thread goes and LL.........I have him at 5. Beat everyone he ever faced and was the best fighter of his era.

So who are Tysons great wins in comparison to Lewis?

 

I can see it .
Lewis wud controll Ali with the jab .
Dominate him with the left hook ,
man handle him in the clinches ,
and beat him down with bodyshots .
it wud almost b a mismatch if it werent for the heart of the Ali.
