Ya, cause aiming that thumb when you're tryin to throw a punch at a moving target is a piece of cake.
Lewis has been called the greatest HW of all time more than once on this idiotic forum, so yes, on here he is very, very overrated by some.
Since I have only followed boxing since since the 80s, I'm not prepared to say that he was the greatest of all time. But anyone who says Lewis wasn't a great, great heavyweight is a ****ing troll
I can understand the point being made here but Lewis was at the top of his game when he got KO'd by Rahman. It's not a question of being prime or not he just got sparked because he was ****ing around and not taking Rahman seriously. It was never a question of conditioning or lack of training and it shouldn't hurt his legacy because he made short work of Rahman in the return bout. Only people with an agenda (TS) would use this against him. Totally agree with your assesment of the McCall fight and this bull**** about other fighters being past prime. A fighters total body of work should be considered when assesing their ATG status.
Ali was ancient when he fought Spinks he also had the onset of parkinsons to contend with. he shouldnt have been in the ring. Ali shocked me in that he could turn it around in a rematch against the much younger man and looked in much better condition. my god anyone who holds a fighters losses long after their prime against them is a sadist. also statistics prove **** all. Given the right opponents fighters have retired undefeated do you consider Marciano the best ever because he has a 100 percent never mind ko percentage!!!!???
He's a legit great Heavyweight and I'll never try to discredit that, but I do think he gets overrated from a H2H standpoint. Not that he couldn't defeat any heavy who ever laced them up, but the axe also swings the other way- alot of great heavies could've beaten him, as well. It seems like there's alot of people who overrate him in that regard. I don't think the kind of gulf in class exists between great HW's to afford Lewis the nearly unbeatable H2H reputation many give him. But he's still damn great regardless- don't get it twisted.
Right. So it's OK for Tyson to be on the downslide at 23, but not Lewis at 35. Surely that's a pretty convincing argument that one guys career is far greater than the others? Didn't Benny Hinn fix that? I thought it was a heart problem. Holyfield always has a ****ing injury when he loses apparently. So, the Holyfield that lost 2 out 3 to Bowe, and IMO won #2 because of Fan Man, beats Lewis. Based on what? Losing to Bowe? In a fight where Bowe threw away ALL of his physical advantages, fought Holy's fight and STILL beat him?????? Lewis was better than Bowe, and not as dumb as a rock. Did you see the fight? I reckon Holy got at least a 15 second recovery, and was in far worse shape than Lewis was against McCall, but one fight was let continue, and one stopped. No arguments about the Rahman stoppage tho......you could have counted to 50. As said before. When was Holy's best? Losing to Bowe time? Beating 2 challengers in their 40's and getting floored by Cooper? Or Losing to Moorer? This is an easy game if we just pick out the WORST of any fighter. All of them were ****. This all sounds like I don't rate Holyfield, which isn't true at all. i think he was brilliant. But you can't beat Lewis with one stick, and when the same rules are applied to your favourite, just dismiss it.
I agree with you. I think the biggest knock on Lewis isn't that he got sparked twice (once with a beauty that took advantage of poor technique, and one hes asking for because of the reasons you describe), it's the fact that at times he really didn't fight anywhere near his ability. In the few fights he was either seriously training for, or thought was a challenge, he was very very good, and usually in good fights. In some of the others, he just looked flat out not interested, and performed nowhere near what he could have.
Yeeaaaaaaaah..and no Euro-trash rides his nuts a tad bit too much. Not overrated really. Nowhere near underrated. Not my kinda fighter though..Too cerebral for my taste but I take into account his ring intelligence and power. That's all that's it.
