Yes, ridiculously so. Lewis is barely top 10, if that, yet you get people putting him much higher. Alone among top level ATG HWs, he is the ONLY one taken out twice in the early rounds by second tier fighters when he held the title. The only one. He also didn't fight the great fighters of his era, Holyfield and Tyson, until they were on the downside, and he didn't fight Riddick Bowe at all. Of course, those that overrate him like to make it seem like this is all the other guys' fault, but these are glaring omissions from Lewis's ledger.

Bowe, Lewis, Evandrer, Tyson, Golata, Mercer, Rudduck, Tua, Foreman, Bruno ect.
    All in the 90's

more than half of them were done for most of the 90s. foreman was already a senior citizen that time. razor was a bum, bowe a stiff puncher with little skills, so was mercer. tua and bruno just sucks:D

    edit:

you put golota in the same line as tyson, evander and lewis?

So, what are you saying? They were all bums?

Evander made his name by LOSING to a stiff puncher with little skills. then lost to the over rated Lewis, and got outpointed by Michael Moorer - and never fought outside his own country. So obviosly, he's ****.

Tyson lost at 23 to a ham'n'egger (thanks Zak :D ), in fight he was out boxed AND brutally KO'd.

Who do you like now then? Wlad? The man that made his name by being knocked senseless by a golfer that wasn't good enough to make it in your 90's "bum era", and now makes his name with his brother by fighting guys that are still fighting, despite not being any good back in the bum era 90's???

I just remember that the fights that I saw were largely dull and painful to watch. In the late 90s/early 00's I don't remember many calling him an ATG.

Now that time has passed and we're in the worst HW era there are more folks mis-remembering his career with the rose colored glasses.

    Again, everyone plays these games.

Please eliminate Larry Holmes, Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano from the list of great fighers.

Yes but like the man said you can rip anyone's resume to pieces.
Who else could he have fought that he didn't already?

The reason he didn't fight Tyson or Holy earlier is because Don King didn't want him too, because King couldn't control him and he didn't fancy his men's chances against him.

Do you think King wanted to risk losing his slice of the heavyweight pie?

Tyson was shot but it was the fight the world wanted to see, and in reality Lewis would be heavily criticised now if he never fought him. Lewis was no spring chicken either in that fight.

Holyfield was past peak but not shot to **** like some suggest. He was also the supposed no1 at the time.
In 24 rounds Holyfield had about 3-4 at best were he made Lewis uncomfortable.

Bowe? Well if Bowe didn't duck him then Newman did.

Moorer's management said Lewis never figured in their plans when he was relevant. Too much risk again.

Foreman said he never wanted no part of Lewis.

He fought the best contenders of his era.
Who else could he have fought who he didn't?

Brits overrate Lewis ,just like they overrate all british fighters, but many americans underrate him ,imo he's one of the best ever, but to this day it bugs me ,he promised ,but never gave Vitali a rematch.
