Lennox and Marciano stand tall as the only 2 men who can claim to have cleaned out a division while beating every man they ever faced. Lennox did this over a 10year period, Marciano over a 5year period
I cannot imagine what kind of thoughts are going through Lennox's mind when he looks at the scene, today, to see McCall, Rahman, Holyfield, Vitali Klitschko, Shannon Briggs, Tua, Botha and Grant are all still right there. Does he have to pinch himself a lot? I wonder if he had one of these conversations, this past year: "Anyone I know fighting tonight?" "Yeah, Grant and Botha are fighting each other, tonight." "...No, seriously."
Are you kidding me? Yes, its just you!! Overrated, cut it out, He also defeated the likes of Ray Mercer, Bruno, he made Bowe run from him out of fear of losing. He was out of shape and TKO'ed Vitali Klitschko. I think he deserves a little more respect than that. I can see him beating Foreman, but DON"T get caught to many times by his punch. Against the 1960's version of Ali that is a difficult one to call. The last man to get into Lewis's head was Rahman in the second fight and LL destroyed him, but Rahman is no Ali. Both are headstrong so it would be interesting. I personally don't think its a sin to have him at #1. I'd go against the grain.
Except Marciano wasnt knocked out by two sub par level fighters. Lewis was a very smart fighter. He went against the stereo typical grain of a successful heavyweight fighter. He stayed disciplined he kept his money and didnt go to jail but his skills are overated in my opinion. His entire career he basically fought the same fighter over and over. His competition really never varied in skillset but his flaws were right there in front of everyone to see. He could punch with the best of them but he couldnt box with the best of them and his footwork was always pretty bad. Lewis came around at the perfect time and took advantage of a very weak crop of fighters with little skill. No way he can be ranked in the top 5. He has to be in the second half of the top ten.
Underrated by some people if anything. Very few fighters in history could **** with Lennox on his best night in my opinion, anybody who has him lower than 7 or 8 on their all time heavyweights list is underrating him I think.
Are you kidding me? , A lot of people thought Lewis lost. You are picking the two fights he looked the worst, but probably the best fighters he realistically beat. . I dont see how this enhances his career? . Well maybe this is his best win. Out of shape or just old? Vitali has yet to show hes much better than an Andrew Golota level fighter on a skill level. Right, he should have never lost to a Rahman level guy anyway like he did. Talk about having respect. You need to have a little more respect for truly great fighters who proved their skills against other great fighters. Lewis never did that he could never be ranked at 1.
Rocky also didn't compete in the era of 240lb Roided HWs. Lennox fought a variety of styles, ATG complete boxer punchers Holyfield/Tyson, SHWs Vitali/Akinwande/Golota/Grant,Bruno - some boxer movers with great jabs some less so, massive dynamic punchers - Tua/Rudduck, pressure fighters Mercer/Holyfield How can you say 'he couldn't box with the best of them', he was behind on the cards once in his career at 37 and still going 50-50 No just Holyfield, Tyson and Vitali all while past his prime
Lewis was one of those 245 pound roided heavyweights. Beating Tyson and Holyfield should hardly be considered. I like how you classified that list of fighters. It was quite amusing.
And who has better opponents that Lewis, this should be good for a laugh I suppose Marciano shouldn't be ranked in the top100 as his best opponents were 38, 37 and 39 :rasta
Holyfield was pretty bad. He looked horrible against Ruiz one fight later and from then on. They could have put a Mike Tyson mask on Bert Cooper and they would have gotten the same fight you saw. Thats how far gone he was. Yeah he looked pretty bad against Vitali but how good is Vitali?
Marciano didnt lose to comparable opposition. Thats the difference. Lewis should be ranked in the second half of the top ten.
maybe a little bit overrated in certain areas. he missed out on the big fights in the 1990s -maybe not his fault but still it affects his legacy. and his good longevity at the top was TWICe interupted by shocking losses to mediocre contendrs
He didnt fight Tyson Bowe and Holyfield when they were relevant fighters in the early 90s. It wasnt his fault but they didnt happen.
