It's kinda funny how Ibeabuchi's only 2 meaningful fights in his 4-5 year career better than any Vitali's win.
Lennox is def one of the greatest of all time. Hes in my top 5, sometimes as high as 3 Resume wise he probably has the best resume after Ali. He did have a problem with laziness which cost him his 2 losses, however he avenged them in dramatic fashion. I belive him and Tyson are very similar, 2 different fighters but both dominated their eras, both had silly losses they shouldnt have. If anything i think Holyfield is overated as is Bowe and Tyson/Lewis are underrated
But he avenged both losses. And don't act like Holmes could have easily been knocked out by both Snipes and Shavers -- He was that close! Sure, he didn't get knocked out, but he was a millimeter away from ending up just like Lewis was against McCall and Rahman. Point being, all it takes is the right punch thrown from the right angle at the right time.
id rate him no higher than 8 ali holmes tyson holyfield foreman frazier louis all beat him prime for prime maybe bowe and liston as well
No it doesnt and thats what separates Holmes from Lewis, he was never caught by that shot that stopped him besides Tyson. He didnt get stopped. Lewis was laid out by fighters he shoud have never been off his feet against or at least gotten up to win.
of course. but the greatest fighters tend to avoid it happening to them ever. Ali, holmes, marciano, Holyfield, joe louis ... never knocked senceless with one punch. im not saying lewis doesnt deserve in that class but its not a good excuse to say it only takes one punch. ALL fighters know it only takes one punch and the worst fighters are the ones who it still happens to all the time ! obviously Lewis was a great fighter and it only happened twice to him anyway but lets not pretend that werent horrible losses. they were bad KO losses to quite ordinary challengrs
To be fair he did got up against McCall - would have been interesting if the referee let the fight to continue to see if McCall could finish the business with a clean KO. At least Lewis wanted to find that out.
I think he's definitely top ten and ,[outside of Ali,]probably the stiffest test for the other champs to face.
Since ppl rank Jack Johnson & Joe Louis above Lewis then he is underrated . But then ppl rank him above McCall and Vitali so he is overrated . His record is full of asterisks , almost entirely . McCall #1 , McCall #2 , Rahman #1 , Grant , Tyson , Holyfield #1 & #2 , Mercer . His performance vs Bruno gets him undeserved flack . His performances vs Golotta , Ruddock , Morrisson were impressing . Botha is overrated , Morrisson also , but Botha was even worse .
Underrated I would say, he's clearly one of the top 5 heavyweights ever in any sane persons list. I have 3rd behind Ali and Lewis personally.
Well one way to look at this is that but for two well placed punches, Lewis would have been undefeated. Think of his place in history had that been the case.
