Think of McCall's place if he came in @ good mental state vs Lewis in d rematch as well and stopped him again and if he stopped Bruno late instead of being as defensice as he was . Think of Tua if he only got a shot @ Holyfield or Ruiz or any1 reachable 4 him instead of Lennox Lewis and if he caught Byrd like Ibeabuchi did . Think of Corrie Sanders if he only was in shape against Vitali and beat him on points and if he was in shape vs Rahman and didn't follow him 2d ropes . Think of Tony Tucker & Pinklon Thomas if they didn't love d crack as much as they did , think of George Foreman if he wouldn't have agreed 2 fight in a hot place such as Kinshasa & San Juan and did not agree 2 enter d ring until d ropes were as tight as ring's ropes r supposed 2b . Think of Merqui Sosa vs Roid Jones with a legit ref that would have given him d mandatory standing 8 count instead of stopping him and then he would have went on 2 pound out a punched out Roid Jones . Think of Davey Moore's place if he postponed/cancelled d Duran fight and came in 100% (or almost) OK .
lewis can be compared to larry holmes and wladimir klitschko. they build respectable reigns and were very consistent. even if the opposition is weak its no easy feat. holmes was better because he never got knocked out in his prime by ordinary opponent
Lewis' opposition is head and shoulders above Wlad's. And he is much better H2H fighter. With Holmes' comparison you can make good cases for either fighter.
Agree totally. I wrestle with Holmes and Lewis in head to head lists as well as ATG overall. There's nothing in it.
only holyfield. and perhaps wlads brother. the rest of the names on the Lewis record are not better at all. Tyson was shot
"Perhaps" Wlad's brother? I think most people would regard him as the second best HW between '99 and '11. Those that don't would likely have him 3rd. Regardless, Lewis beat his heir apparent, which is rare and generally indicative of longevity and domination. Wlad doesn't have anything even approaching that. Plus, most of us feel differently than you do about the likes of Bruno and Tua.
No it isn't. Not at all. The contenders are Lewis, Wlad and Vitali. You can order these three in pretty much any way you like but Vitali would likely come out second in a vote. To be clear - i'm not saying he was at least top three in all the moths of all of these years in rankings. I'm saying that Lewis beat the most exceptional HW who fought in that timespan, aside from himself.
Vitali and Wlad weren't best heavyweights in 99 or 00 or 01 - they asserted their domination much later. This is what i ment.
i think there is a good argument to say that vitali was spurred on by his performance against Lewis and improved in his fights after that. im not sure. but i know he wasnt rated going in against Lewis as he has become since. It has become Lewis 2nd best win in hindsight as Vitali has become a more significant win. thats why i said "perhaps" ill admit i dont have any feelings for Frank bruno and david Tua !
Lewis has beaten about 6 HWs better than anyone Wlad beat, maybe more. Tyson may have been well past his best in 02 but he'd still beat pretty much anyone on Wlad's resume
I was wandering who might possibly be picked from Wlad's resume to trouble Vitali...apart from Byrd of course haha. But you've upped the ante there a bit. Tyson.
I can't see Byrd getting Tyson's respect and trying to shoulder roll Tyson on the ropes? Rather him than me :yep
I guess i'd pick Old Tyson to beat everyone on Wlad's resume on paper, but in reality he would probably lose to somebody weird on the actual run, he was a bit of a disaster area overall. But yeah, Tyson's scalp probably is better than anyone Wlad has.
