Is Lennox lucky that Ike Ibeabuchi wound up in prison?

Lewis was a bit lucky overall in the way the 90s heavyweight division shook out.

Tyson in prison early, Bowe ducking him, and (to a much lesser extent) Ibeabuchi going to prison, Golota having the medical issue in their fight, and McCall having a psychological meltdown.

Don't get me wrong. None of this was Lennox's fault. But I think he would have picked up another loss somewhere along the line if those guys had been available and in working order.

Ike was tough and strong. But I do not ever see him beating a prime motivated Lewis

The fight with Lennox was being discussed after Ike Ko'd Byrd. One more fight then Lennox. That hooker destroyed that idea. All the talk about Ike knowing he'd be found guilty if it went to trial is really BS. He Pled Not guilty from Day1. They did not have enough to indict him that's why they kept him in jail for months under heavy sedation badgering him to plead guilty with the lie that he'd be out boxing again in 6 months. If you were kept under heavy sedation for months wouldn't you suffer mentally??? The man I feel most sorry for is my good friend the late great Curtis Cokes. Its every trainers dream to train the world heavyweight champ & Curtis had two fighters capable of doing just that Ike & Kirk. Calling that hooker halted Ike's chance The Oscar worthy acting
of John Ruiz & the bias of Joe Cortez robbed Kirk of the WBA title when he was DQ'd on what should have been a legitimate KO. Ruiz acting feigning low blows was almost hilarious. That took Kirks heart he lost interest after that
A Lennox-Ike fight would have been a barn burner Knowing & liking both it would be hard for me to pick the winner I'd just sit in a neutral corner & say like I always do MAY THE BEST MAN WIN!! That doesn't always happen these days does it

Not an apologist at all I knew the guy saw him on a regular basis. He had faults yeah & was no angel but neither was he the evil monster some of you try to create. I wish him the best wherever he is

I don’t think Lennox Lewis was happy about that circumstance. Ike Ibeabuchi would pass against Lewis, as would his biggest rival David Tua.
Of course there is always a punching chance for Ike. In that case, things would be resolved in a rematch. And Lewis would have an even better legacy.

He took an Alford plea. Legally that means precisely that he admitted in a court of law that the prosecution had enough evidence to convict him so he was pleading to it without saying ‘I’m guilty.’ An Alford plea means ‘if it goes to trial I will be convicted, I’m not willing to plea guilty so this is a way I can take the sentence without actually saying the words ‘I’m guilty.’”

I’ve pressed you on this many times and you have yet to answer, so again:

    1) You say ‘he had his faults and he was no angel.’ So what were his faults since you knew him, and what exactly do you mean by saying he wasn’t an angel? Spell it out.

    2) You said in another thread that he needed a psychiatric evaluation — what did you see being around him that made you think he was mentally unbalanced enough to need a psychiatric evaluation? What did you witness?

    3) You blame other people for not getting him help, so why didn’t you or Curtis Cokes get him help if you were around him? What is that someone else’s job and not yours if you knew he needed help, and why wasn’t it Curtis’ job since he was around him all the time and profiting off him?

Curtis was the only man he'd listen to. He knew it was Curtis training that transformed him from a crude banger to the complete boxer puncher. Ike was another one of boxing's tragedies

Then Curtis should have gotten him to get mental health help. He clearly had issues. But nobody wants to send their cash cow to a mental ward, I get it.

Curtis was not making much off of Ike $$$ wise He was doing it because he saw the potential he had. Curtis , like Dave Gorman was one of boxings gentlemen. Who was the fat guy with the mustache the promoter ? He promoted several Heavyweight Explosion cards . Ive remembered it was Cedric Kushner who was pushing Ike. All he saw were $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ signs He wasn't interested in his welfare

However much money Curtis was or was not making, if what you say is true — that Curtis was the only person Ike would listen to — then Curtis should have convinced him to get help. The guy had issues and the one person who might be able to do something to get him to get help was Curtis from what you say.

I wish he had. Ike and a lot of other people would be better off, and not because of his boxing career.
