When looking back on the career of Vitali...no doubt things to be considered are...

...his being very competitive in his bout with the nearly retired Lewis

    ...his World Title victory

    ...KO percentage...

...some other things, that I don't care about...

...but will people consider the LEWIS cancellation issues, in some form part of his legacy...???

Will it be seen as some sort of moral victory, or a willingness to rematch a tough champion that did significant damage to his eye...???

...or possibly some other retrospectively flattering perspective, when considering the issue...???

Have there been other times where a fight did not take place, and the issue was somehow looked back on as a part of a fighters legacy...???

Not really, the fact that its even being considered as part of his legacy just goes to show he hasnt really done much.

Ten years from now, only diehard fans will remember Lewis or V. Klitchko, and absoloutly none of the small details mentioned.

Floyd Mayweather moved up three divisions to avoid Amir Khan, if I recall correctly.

I disagree.... I don't see everyone completely forgetting about Lewis. If Vitali doesn't come back and do something, I can see him sort of falling off the map in the eyes of newer American boxing fans. However, when talking about someone's legacy, you are basically talking about diehard fans anyways. Your normal average joe doesn't give a **** about a boxer's legacy.

No, I will remember how he fought a bunch of nobodies, before losing to an out of shape and old Lewis

I will also remember his hoardes of demented fans, who have him down as some sort of God when he's done very little

I will also remember Gym KO Vitali 1

I might even remember him quitting against Byrd

It might have been a moral victory if Lewis had continued to fight but he retired.

Lewis did it all in his career, no question. Good time to retire and good luck to him.

Lewis was smart to get out at the righ time. I'll give Lummox that.

He knew he was losing motivation and just getting older. I always disliked him but he was smart enough to leave before he became a shell of himself fighting for one last payday like too many fighters do.

Yep, one of the only fighters with brains bigger than his ego.

I dont understand why so much emphasis is put on Vitali`s loss to Byrd. Vitali suffered a torn rotator cuff. Those are notoriously badly injuries that can be career threatening. During that fight Byrd was NOT winning. The guy was getting battered. If they had fought again Vitali would have cleaned his clock.

Vitali hasn't done much of anything since the Lewis fight - so I don't see how he will be remember for anything that he's done - unless he beats Peter and him and his Brother are the first Brothers to hold Titles at the same time. Other than that - I don't see anyone talking about him 10 years from now.

Thank you. This guy gets more credit for being bold in losing a fight to Lewis then the guys that Actaully beat Lewis. VK hasnt done sh*t. I will say, it his fans they are full of sh*t.

Could have, would have, should have.

That is the thing with Brittley.

"Vitali SHOULD HAVE beaten Lewis if not for the cuts"

"Vitali WOULD HAVE beaten Byrd in a rematch"

"Vitali WOULD HAVE destroyed so and so"

"Vitali COULD HAVE won Gold in 1996 if not for his positive roid test"

You go by what fighters did, not what he could have/should have/would have done.

As it is, he doesn't have the resume of wins over quality heavyweight contenders to make people forget about his meaningful losses.

For instance, Wladimir has made up for it for the most part. Quitali hasn't.
