Ever since this fight was announced, there seems to be a lot of negativity surrounding this fight due to the hype surrounding that Gennady Guy not fighting Canelo yet. But heres a guy in Liam Smith that is a real tough fighter, a hard worker who has a massive opportunity here to show the world what he can do. I watched his last fight vs Predrag Radosevic, who was 30-1 with his only loss being to Felix Sturm, and Beefy disposed of this guy in the 2nd round with a cracking double left hook / uppercut combo. (a digging body shot hook, followed by a quick half hook/half upper upstairs) Beefy really impressed me with his performance, and the stoppage gave him his 8th consecutive Knockout ! Smith was very businessnesslike, heavy handed, and once he started to let his hands go it was all over. Now, as the WBO Champion, with two successful title defenses, and undefeated at 23-0-1, he takes on Canelo Alvarez in Las Vegas in his first fight outside of the U.K. This has all the makings of a Fight that could surprise. Or .. Will Beefy Freeze on the Big Stage with all the Bright Lights of Las Vegas Shining Down? We just dont know whats going to happen here? There are so many story lines that go into this fight and its only just over 2 months away ! This is Beefys Golden Opportunity to Reach the Top of the Mountain in Boxing ! Hes the Champ, Canelo is the Challenger. Do yall think Beefys going to fade away in the Middle Rounds like his countryman Amir Khan or will he just get Blown away by Saul in Round 1??? Or Will Beefy be ready to go 12 tough rounds and dish out some punishment to Alvarez while hes at it!? What kind of chin do you think Beefy has?? What I know is that this guy can punch, one look at his last fight leaves no doubt about that? On the one hand Saul Alvarez can be very tough to hit. Even the Great Floyd Mayweather couldnt put Alvarez down over 12 rounds ! Amir Khan though did manage to land on Canelo in the first 5 rounds, but Smith is more of a plodder than Khan, a guy that seems to want to walk you down and try to corner you then unload. How is Canelo going to prepare for this guy? And does Smith have a realistic chance here to make this Fight that could take Alvarez into deep waters? Could this be a toe-to-toe battle or will Alvarez use his footwork to make Smith come to him and try to catch Smith trying to corner him? Also the legitimate question that many have wondered is will Canelo be able to make 154 without any problems. Will fighting at 1 lb over JMW cause Canelo to train harder in the Gym so he can make weight easily? Could it actually cause Canelo to train harder than he did vs Khan knowng that this is for the WBO title and he has to make 154? There is so much drama going into this fight. You got Liam Smith the UnderDog Champion coming to America and fighting in Vegas for the First Time! What must be going through this young mans mind over the next 2 months? Could this fight defy the disrespect and low expectations and actually deliver? Could we see an upset or will Canelo just blow him away in the first round?? Are fans disrespecting Liam Smith because he hadnt fought anyone of note, or is Beefy a Sleeping Giant ready to break out and take over Boxing?? :think
I guess this is also For the Lineal MW Championship of the World Too Right??? HEY its Below 160 right? Can Beefy be the Man Who Beat the Man Who Beat the Man Who Beat the Man at MW?? AND STILL THE WBO LMW Champ? A LOT ON THE LINE HERE !
Liam is a good fighter, but Canelo is on a different level and will have a big weight advantage fight night.
If Canelo was looking for a good fight at 154, he didn't have to go to the UK. He went there looking for a soft target. I don't know much about Smith but I am hoping that he at least drops Canelo and gives him a run for his money. If he wins then that's cool too. I don't respect Canelo that much as a fighter because he is selling out and letting Oscar stop him from being a really well rounded and top of the line fighter.
LMAO disrespecting? Remind me again who the Fck has Liam Smith fought? Liam smith is not a good fighter. He's a stepping stone at best.
Liam is solid, I mean Canelo is 34 and he hasn't fought anyone with a pulse yet so I wish he would fight Andrade, J-Rock, and the Charlos back to back. Oh wait, he's 26 lmfao, and he's already fought Mayweather, Lara, Trout, Cotto, Angulo, Cintron, Kirkland, etc. What I find hilarious are the little g fans that suddenly dont give a **** about belts. Whenever you would ask little g fans about why he's never fought anyone with a pulse they'd be all like "B-b-b-ut the belts doeeee..". Little G fans should be defending this fight.
That actually is pretty funny. People are trashing the Smith fight because A) They wanted/were expecting GGG and B) Smith hasn't proven himself against top fighters.
This is it. I like Smith, but he hasn't shown he is world class. Whooping Radosevic, who Sturm stopped, isn't all that praiseworthy.
Count on Yeller to come in at 157, pay the 20K/lb penalty, abandon the notion of putting him the postion of yet again, dropping his title and running, while at the same time coming in with a 25lb weight advantage over Smith. This fight aint gonna be for the title, MARK MY WORDS.atsch
the issue that Canelo is Smith's first consensus top50 opponent, but still holding a belt for some odd reason should tell you what you need to know.
