As ive said he has ATG skills and H2H is a force. Possibly top 5 lightweight. But he just hasn't done enough to rep the phrase ATG
It depends on what criteria you consider when determining who is and is not an all time great. I think that Lomachenko and Rigondeaux were two of the most talented fighters I've ever seen, and neither really amounted to anything like what their potential hinted at. Much of their primes were wasted in the amateur ranks. When they got to the pros they were ducked by the best fighters and dominated weak divisions. Neither man has the record to be an all time great even though both have the physical as well as the technical abilities.
Possibly top 5 lightweight? He is a top 5 in this current era at lightweight. He isn't close to a top 5 ATG lightweight though.
Although his career is not yet over, he is without a doubt in the conversation as an ATG given his accomplishments to date. He is the most exciting fighter on the planet. A boxing genius with exceptional physical ability. A joy to watch.
No, and he is very unlikely to ever be one. On top of his very weak resume (for ATG standards) he is also competing in some of the strongest weight classes ever historically, with 135lbs being the #1 division in Boxing history. The only active fighters I could truly say are actual ATGs around their weight classes today are Pacquaio (obviously), Donaire and Roman Gonzalez. Canelo is borderline. Then there is also the case that Loma is simply overrated H2H. He is 'very good' level, but doesn't have what it takes to hang with true ATGs unless he has a big style advantage.
Did Larry Holmes do more than Mayweather? What about Vitali? Wlad? Tyson? I think an objective look at resumes and accomplishments puts him right there with the majority of fighters we call all time greats
What happened against Teofimo Lopez? Loma's career is not over but let's see if he can rebound to win another title.
Based on achievements... you could argue for it. However if you watch him box then... definitely! He's absolutely amazing to watch, one of the most skilled ever.
Normal thing as Lopez had told : Loma is too small for 135 lbs division. Nothing wrong. Actually I think Loma should had stayed at 126 lbs and 130 lbs as long as it is possible and beat bums in row. KOs and TKO wins are most appreciated and sorry for reality, best way to earn money is to milk belt/s with some easy title defenses and take some fights vs bums between these fights to collect paychecks. I hope that Lopez unlike his fans does knows that ol Bob already had defeated him via KO. He should milk belts, better in fighting vs bums, jump up and down between weight classes and cherry pick. Then dad, managers and ol bob will be able normally to milk him out and he too will earn enough money. When Lopez will lost 1 st fight, he will be less lucrative to milk him. Bunches with large for 135 lbs division boxers with undefeated records are around. If he was not able to stop nor Nakatani nor small for 135 lbs division Loma he definitely will not be a world beater at 140 lbs, not alone 147 lbs.
Loma needs the Lopez rematch. If he goes out there and avenges the Lopez loss with two functioning shoulders this time and unifies the division, he will be considered an all-time great. He can solidify matters by releasing the belts, dropping to 130lbs and unifying that division after taking out Shakur and/or Valdez. There would be zero debate then on ATG status.
