I'm not saying he is . I just want to hear your opinion on it. He's received criticism for fighting Miguel Marriaga after coming off a loss for losing to Salido and fighting a smaller rigo ? Now again I'm not saying hes overated I actually rate loma very high .but what about you guys .I want to hear your opinion on him. He's really accomplished alot with little fights

    Yes and no.
He is a victim of politics. He spent the better part of his life fighting for free and when he turned pro Arum was trying to put him through the fast lane without the real pro experience, which is why he loss to Salido. He had no idea how real boxing works fighting in the ams for 10 years.

Also the divisions he fought in were filled with talent that refused to face him so he does not get the credit that we saw go to last eras guys like Morales, Barrera, Mayweather, Pacquiao, Hamed and so on.

It will always be a what if and a bunch of fantasy matchups.

No, he's not. He's awesome. When you're that good, losing to Salido and getting knocked down by Linares get magnified, because the rest of his career he's looked from another planet. Because he's not infallible - nobody is or ever will be - would-be critics can jump on every tiny facet of his game that could be improved to try to diminish his standing. They'd do the same if Robinson or Langford were around today, as they still do for the likes of Crawford and Mayweather.

That said, if by overrated you mean people gushing that he's some kind of promised second coming and that boxing has never, nor will ever, see his like again, then yes, you could say he's overrated. But that kind of hyperbole isn't sensible analysis, just like the attempts to discredit him aren't.

Depends on who you ask. On this forum definitely. On the scene? No.

No. His resume is solid and his skills speak for itself. Number 2 on my p4p list for sure.

He has a couple real solid names on his resume, but like Crawford, Mikey & Spence until he fights and beats a actual threat then yeah I'd have to say he's overrated. Don't get me wrong Loma is my favorite fighter going today, and his style and talent alone has him at p4p #2 on my list behind Crawford, but he needs to beat Garcia to live up to how he is talked up.

I always wondered what justification do people have for Crawford being p4p number 1?

GRJ, Walters, Linares, Rigo were all considered big threats before Loma fought them, then after outclassing each one, suddenly they aren't threats?!

He is historic as far as how few fights to win X amount of titles in different weight classes. X is up to 3 now so doing pretty well. The short amount of time he has had his whole career makes for great quality per year, elevating him to the very top of P4P lists.

If you are critiquing, you could point to classic negative talking points about most of his opponents as you can with every fighter ever.

I'm aware he is a machine and I appreciate his resume. Seems people get way too carried away too much related to his literal opposition and quantity in a historical respect with him. And he is a huge fan favorite. If he was obscure or only mildly disliked, he very well would probably be underrated. So I would say he is overrated while not citing his divisional rankings over the last years as a point of disagreement.

I think he's ****ing amazing and bordering on boxing God status. But sadly not everyone here is as objective, measured and restrained in their take on him and they go overboard and let everyone down.

Rigo, 2 divisions too far up (in the years after Mayweather/Marquez, this is viewed as unacceptable by many)

Walters, wasn't this only his second fight at the weight? Was the other that draw (I thought he won wide)?

Linares and Russell Jr...... what are their best wins each?

^^^ someone can always come along and deuce on anything.

The Rigo fight can't be viewed as well as Mayweather/Marquez for example and the way so many dismiss that, it seems Rigo would be for them too. Either way, 2 divisions, 40 years old, and Rigo-inactive it just isn't an A+ win at all unfortunately. Two years earlier, sure. Also I am a fan of Walters but with some hindsight I think it was clearly overstated a bit. So those two fights are not "he fought an elite fighter" or "was not a big favorite."

linares is the most under rated fighter in boxing.
