That 20/20 hindsight...it’s not like Loma was invincible prior to this fight. He’d been showing signs of slippage since Linares. Campbell touched him up nice. This was bound to happen...I just wish I’d seen this signs prior to the fight. I could’ve made some money.
On this forum he was spoken of by the usual suspects as one of the best fighters of all time. It all depends on the claim but if we are talking about this forum then the answer is absolutely, regardless of last night, haha.
I thought Lomachenko gave away the first 6 rounds waiting for what I don't know. I guess he figured Lopez would tire and he'd get him later but I could have gone 6 rounds at that pace, geez!
Great fighter who isn’t the generational talent this forum put on him by the usual suspects who always rate white Eastern European fighters too highly.
I don’t think he’s overrated, he’s certainly very skilled and has accomplished so much in a little amount of time, he lost a fight where he was outsized and outgunned, i was rooting for teo but I respect both for challenging themselves and choosing to fight each other in their primes. Losses happen when you fight good competition
Yes, completely overrated. Loma only won belts in 3 different weight classes with less than 20 pro fights. Also beat how many champions or former champions? But yes, Loma clearly sucks. This is what I call 'The Mayweather Effect'. You lose and you suck and are overrated (even though Mayweather should have at least one loss, maybe two). Fighters who fight at a certain level lose, their edge over their opponents is not that great. It does not mean they suck or are overrated. I dont know if any fighter has done what Loma has done, he is clearly a special fighter.
He was good but boxing is looking for that great fighter now when there might not be one.. It is a very lean time now in boxing. Covid is not helping things.
I actually have to agree with that. They keep pushing narratives that over the hill shot fighters are a threat in a division, or the next champion at the weight is the best ever of that weight. I don't watch it that often, but I've been a wrestler and boxer and watch a fighters highlights and pick the winner 90% of the time. The sport is so young, and the fighters are still improving their tactics and techniques. TBE convos are kind of annoying in such a young sport.
Boxing fan can be so harsh sometimes. He lost to a talented fighter who was much better than expected, is on the rise, and could very well be on his way to do big things in the future. There’s no shame in losing to a bigger. younger fighter who already has the goods. It’s not like he lost to a complete bum, he just ran into a bigger, fresher fighter who came to win. Just because he came up short doesn’t make him less of a great fighter. Loma is still a great fighter with elite skills and a HOF resume. To answer the question though I would say that he was overrated to some extant in terms of his overall abilities. Clearly he’s not that unbeatable. But he still has a good record and has done things that few fighters can pull off. Gotta respect that.
Yes, he gets extremely overrated. He's been called an ATG, H2H the best fighter, P4P king... and more despite having a loss to a fighter way past his prime with very low technical skills. That said, he's one of the best P4P fighters today, and despite his clear disadvantages fought nearly on even terms against Teofimo Lopez who he himself now deserves to be ranked in the top 10 P4P. Not many fighters between 126-135 will beat Lomachenko. In fact the only two fighters who may be able to heat him are Berchelt and of course Lopez.
