25 defenses of the richest prize in sports. Coming in with probably at times niggling injuries, colds, personal issues or just not really being up for it - but always against an opponent that could turn around his life's fortunes with one great performance. Or just one great punch, for that matter.

Is this perhaps the greatest achievement in boxing?

There are just so many - it's too difficult to nail one down.

Julio cesar Chavez record of 27 title defences (albeit at different weights) ranks up there too, and what joe Louis did was amazing.
but Id have to say what henry Armstrong did tops them all for me

Might go for Terry McGovern knocking out Pedlar Palmer, George Dixon and Franke Erne (who had just stopped Gans) in twelve months. None of them had ever been stopped before, I don't think, and he knocked them all out in double quick time within something close to a year. They were the reigning bantameweight, featherweight, lightweight champion. That is ****ing disgusting.

Yeah, as far as heavies go this is probably the hardest challenge. Then again, if you consider Louis was undisputed champion and not just a beltholder, that's a record that will never be broken as far as I'm concerned.

I don't know which is more impressive...

forgot about Wilfred benitez beating the great Cervantes at 17 with his classmates in the audience.
Benitez was a kid and only been a pro 2 years, never been 15 rounds and never beat anyone other than journeymen.
Then he gets in and does that to such a great champion.
    crazy

If he breaks it the haters here will say it is a meaningless accomplishment.

IMO it is the most prestigious record in all of boxing. Wlad is the only one with a chance of breaking it. After him I don't think anyone comes close for the next 50+ years.

Wlad is a bore, but, he is as effective as they come, if he breaks it, good for him and he deserves it. He did it against all his era had to offer, and Imo it's not as bad as people want it to be.

It is quite an accomplishment considering that Joe was the sole Champion and re-matched ALL of his tough fights ...25 title defenses as a unified Champion and fighting the best is one of the greatest
