Walter Matthysse went 25-0 with 24 KO's and was considered a dangerous KO machine, until he came up against the at the time iron jawed Paul Williams, Williams walked through everything Walter threw eventually wearing down and pummeling Walter into submission, to score a 10th round TKO, it seemed like a little hiccup because in his next fight he scored a quick 2nd round TKO of another Argentine journeyman. So back to the big leagues and the moment he stepped back up Cintron KO'd him, then Lujan KO'd him and Bunema after that, then giving up he went back to Argentina, to feast on more cab drivers but by that point his chin was permanently shattered and even a journeyman Oscar Veliz stopped him, who came into the fight with 15 losses, 5 of which were KO's, ending his career. Walter fell apart rapidly after the Williams stoppage and never came close to recovering, his chin was entirely shot, and descended quickly into a Juanmaesque decline. So is Lucas starting to show signs of a decline while less evident similar to his brother? While the Garcia KD was bull**** the damage he took in the match is not, Garcia while not a monster puncher landed flush on Lucas countless times, and the fight while close took quite a bit out of both of their careers. John Molina is a very big puncher and I believed he would be a threat to Lucas, especially since Lucas thought he wouldn't be able to hurt him, and underestimating his power may walk into something big, which is exactly what happened, twice, if Molina had more confidence and hadn't been so shocked by the fact that he had actually dropped Matthysse, I believe could have stopped Lucas after the first KD. So is it that Lucas didn't take John seriously and walked into something or is his chin been irrevocably dented in his last 2 fights, possibly to never recover like his brother? Or is it just back to back bad luck and he'll get back to being La Machina? Postscript: Lucas lost by 10th Round KO to Viktor Postol:-(
Matthysse took minimal damage against Garcia, just a recurrence eye issue he suffered against Vivian Harris. He finished the fight on the front foot throwing bombs. Garcia was pissing blood and was deaf for weeks according to Angel.
I agree with you Garcia is shot as well, but I'm just posing a question are we seeing Lucas starting to fall apart.
Stop using "an" before words that don't start with vowels. It makes your post nearly unreadable cause it's annoying. Anyhow, I always like Matthysse he was fun to watch and fairly skilled. But I think people overlooked his flaws. The guy had a tendency of throwing wide and could get quite sloppy. It's unfortunate, but it is important to consider the fact that he may not have been as great as he was hyped to be to begin with. Not to take anything away for Danny. He fought him when people said he wouldn't.
Didnt Matthyse seriously consider retirement after that fight? Just because he wasnt open about it, doesnt mean he wasnt damaged from that fight.
Lucas at 50 will be a better fighter than his brother was at 25. Walter Matthysse was never considered a dangerous KO machine. He was unknown by most fans before he fought Williams and had fought (let alone knocked out) nobody worth mentioning, and most who follow boxing know to be wary of padded South American records...especially when they are built up entirely at home. I don't think anybody was shocked when P-Dub blitzed him. It all went to script. P-Dub was already being groomed for stardom, and WDM provided just the sort of pretty-on-paper record while being helplessly doomed to get destroyed to help push the moneymaker along.
Williams did say that Walter was the hardest puncher he fought, but no he wasn't considered the kind of savage KO machine back then that Lucas is. I don't think he was even considered at all really. Lucas' chin is made out of much sterner stuff than his brother's - it's battle tested and proven against big hitters. Best Puncher? ''Walter Matthysse – That was the first time when I got hit, my whole body felt numb. The crowd went real low (to me). I was like “Wow.” I moved around and could hear the crowd getting loud(er) and my body getting back (to) regular.'' --Paul Williams
People still talk about Matthysse? :rofl He already got destroyed by Garcia and his chin is horribly cracked. John Molina put him down twice and put him on ***** street like 50 times, and this guy got knocked out by Molina in 1 round you idiots. ROFL
:rofl Yes it did. Matthysse got his chin horribly cracked Garcia put him on his ass for the first time in his career Garcia beat his eye socket in... Garcia beat him on the scorecards very very convincingly. :deal
Just like how he himself got destroyed by Herrera :rofl This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected 8-4 Herrera dominated that ass with his feather fist . NOT EVEN CLOSE . One dimensional slow ass Provodonikov beat Herrera 115/113 and lefted him looking disfigured .
