Just compare Makh struggling vs 41 y.o. Takam to Wlad battering 41 y.o. Ray Mercer This content is protected
Wow I was not impressed at all and I am a huge fan of his. I knew Makmudov was crude but his ring IQ has not improved at all. Takam was throwing Hail-Mary bombs all night and Makmudov just trying to meet him dead on instead of stepping back and countering. The jab-clinch method became predictable within a few rounds also. He spars in small rings (most gyms have small boxing rings) so should be comfortable moving around them and holding form. Power is still scary though but he is like Wilder - unrefined. Expecting better next time.
That's a bit harsh on Mercer who unfortunately never lived the life even remotely to the same level as Takam and he was like a lamb to the slaughter against WK. The Mercer that fought Lewis could very well have done a Sandersesque type destruction on an unseasoned WK.
Regardless of the clinch parallels, IMO any comparison stops out of the gate because if Makh has a jab, he does not use it much or well - and that is polar opposite to Wlad, who had a solid ramrod jab, and used it to control the vast majority of his fights after moving to Steward.
