It just feels like it for me in my area, whenever someone would get asked to name a boxer Pacman would be the first to be named and sometimes the only one.

Exercise: Ask someone you know if they know who Manny Pacquiao is and post their response.

    sort of.

most of my friends wouldn't know who he is. Floyd has more name recognition at this point.

He is, but he isn't. I think most males who follow some kind of sport have heard of him in the US.

If Pacquiao was the first and sometimes the only name that came up you must live in an area heavily populated by filipinos.

yeah, that seems to be the hype line.

That might explain part of it, Mexicans are fanatical about boxing but I would'nt call that mainstream.

Right now the focus is on Pac and Hatton so obviously those are the two names that mainly come up but only around my friends that know boxing the rest of the people(the mainstream if you will) seem to be oblivious to boxing other than an occasional reference to DLH,Tyson(still) .

By the way, you're telling me that most Mexicans you know could only think of Pac when asked about boxing. Hmmmmmmmmmm?
