In Poland he isnt close to Tyson's, Holyfield's, RJJ's or even DLH's popularity. Everyone who follows boxing knows who Pac is, but average Joe doesnt know. For instance Tyson or RJJ are familiar to many people, not only boxing fans. It may sound funny, but I believe that Valuev is more recognized name in Poland than Pacquiao. I am not joking, many people, including girls (who dont care about boxing) know who Valuev is.
Boxing is quite popular in ireland especially considering were a small country and we have other major sports like GAA,rugby and soccer but pac is quite popular and well known here! There will be about 20 of us in my mates house for the mosley fight as there is for all of pacs fights and we wont be the only people with a similar set up! Everybody I know, knows who pacquiao is and is interested in his fights
And before Oscar it was Tyson (or Chavez at least for Latinos )... Theres always been someone, and there always will be.
He's rarely mentioned in the British media. When he is mentioned in articles they do not give the reader an accurate impression of how good he is. Amongst genuine fight fans [based on those I talk to] he is generally regarded as the main man except perhaps the Klitcko's. Whereas Mayweather is regarded as a ducker/cherry picker who likes to fight titchy fighters who have built good reps in divisions below him.
@ povetkinfan... Im from ireland and im not trying to be smart but I know very few people who regard mayweather like that hes well known, well watched and greatly admired and respected(however not greatly liked) in ireland
Hi Chunk Regarding your comment about Mayweather being beloved in Ireland, I did qualify my commentby saying I was basing it on fight fans I speak to. This is quite a small sample and it might that all the people I don't speak to might absolutely adore him! Mayweather does get a lot of praise in the British media. Murdoch probably instructs his editors to not allow negative comments about American fighters given that his empire is mainly based in the US. I do not recall ever reading an article in a British newspaper discussing his cherrypicking or of his dodging of Pac.
I wouldnt say he is ''beloved'' but he is admired and respected but people dont like him(i know A few may fans but not many)....i would say pac is greatly more popular but both are as well known as each other and both greatly respected(as they both should be terrific fighters)
But, Chunk, you're presenting a slightly misleading picture in that you're talking about "amongst boxing fans". If I walked through Dublin on a Saturday morning with a clipboard and took a random sample of 1000 people, at least 75% wouldn't recognize Pacquiao's name, whereas at least 60% would recognize both Tyson and Ali.
I live in the UK and most ppl here know who Manny Pacquiao is, so everyone who says differently are just jealous and full of ****
Yes, it is the case. I live in Leicestershire and work in Tesco, most ppl in the warehouse know who Pacman is, so shut your bull****.
