Me and two of my friends were having a discussion (if you wanna call it that). During which I said manny pacquiao is more reckless then necessary. They both seemed to think that pacquiao takes acceptable risk while in the ring.

Excluding the Rios fight, (which in my opinion was pacquiao learning to not be reckless). Do you think he is a more reckless fighter then necessary?

    No...

Just because one of the greatest counter punchers the sport has ever seen knocked him out throwing one of the greatest punches of his career? no...

I wouldn't consider him reckless at all. If you notice most of his fights he isn't overly reckless, he's usually calculating and knows when to back off and wait for his opponent's reaction. Primal examples of these are against DLH, Morales II & III, Barrera I and II, Hatton, Cotto, Concreto, Marquez II, Diaz, Larrios and others I don't even remember at the moment. He only got overly reckless once against Marquez in the fourth fight clearly because he saw that Marquez was badly battered, backing off and hurt that he opened up recklessly and paid the price for it. In general he's definitely not reckless, just look at his leg movement even when he appears to be planning to charge forward he's mostly feinting. A reckless fighter wouldn't go as far as Pacquiao did in terms of accomplishments and ATG status, he would have been in the same category as the likes of Gatti(RIP), Micky Ward...etc

No not reckless, aggressive fighter with lightning speed who can be caught by well timed shots. Even so if he was not attacking he would not be the fighter we know today.

the more i think about it you might be right. right now my head is telling tim ios reckless but, tim had only been reckless against mid tier fighters..

and thinking about it paq, are you asking does paq take chances or is he reckless.. i picked reckless but i think i am taking it back. reckless is different than taking chance.

i dot believe paq puts himself in reckless positions but thats because he figths very awkward and i dont consider it "reckless' but it could seem like it is reckless some times. to take advantage of paq is very difficult, you need the skills, the chin, the will and the stamina. so certain fighters can make paq look reckless but i dont think je is a reckless fighter at WW

lower weights he was reckless and i dont think he gave a sh!t

I would lean toward yes. He took more punishment in the Margo fight than he had to as an example. Its also why people like to watch.

mannys , weakness will be show n up against thinking guys, that can time him. Hence that brutal right which his own recklessness brought his downfall. Would floyd, leonard, hagler, run into ko punch like that? Go and study the sport man!

Hagler ran head first into Tommy Hearns' best shot in their fight, the only reason he wasn't stopped or more badly hurt is because he had one of the greatest chins in the history of the sport.

This. Freddie made him into a much more careful fighter. For example, not once in their fight, that I recall, was Shane able to land his right against Manny. Manny was prepared for it and stuck to the game plan all night long.

Sometimes he can be reckless but from what I saw in the Rios fight, he was very cautious and didn't go for the kill to try and finish off the fight.

His style of fighting got him where his at today.

well we all know that Pac will learn from that KO loss, he was fighting very smart in the Rios fight.
