Is Manny Pacquiao the Fighter of the Decade?

Yes, I know the decade is not over yet. But it's getting close. And has anyone accomplished as much in this decade as the Filipino Fury? After defeating Juan Manuel Marquez, David Diaz and Oscar De La Hoya, he is the favorite for Fighter of the Year. But what about the decade?

Joe Calzaghe fans could make an argument that Joe deserves Fighter of the Year honors by virtue of his wins against Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr., but Pacquiao's wins were more impressive. He fought two champions still in their prime and climbed all the way up to 147 to conquer De La Hoya.
Let's just take a look at the decade this man has had:
    * He won titles in four weight classes
    * Moved up to welterweight and thoroughly beat Oscar De La Hoya. Remember, this is the same fighter that, a year-and-a-half earlier, lost a split decision to Floyd Mayweather Jr.
    * Defeated nine current or former world champions and that does not include multiple fights with Barrera, Morelas and Marquez.
Perhaps Floyd Mayweather Jr. could make an argument that he should be Fighter of the Decade, but it seems that he left the decade too soon to make the claim. That's just another reason Floyd and Manny should get it on.

Well, the names on PAc's resume should make him fighter of the decade right? Well, when he beat those guys, were they ALL in their prime? Was Diaz a great LW champ? Was Dlh still good considering who he fought in the past when he faced Pac. Dlh fought guys like Ike, Hop, Tito, Vargas... etc yet PAc beat him worse than those guys including Floyd lol. Let me ask you this and you be honest. Now look at the bold/underlined lol you wrote it! Read it carefully and then answer this question: SHOULD PAC ASK FLOYD TO COME IN AT A CATCH WEIGHT OF 143,144 SINCE HE BEAT DLH BETTER THAN FLOYD AT 147?

    Agree with those three.

I think it will definitely be Pac by the end of the decade, though Hopkins could fight til he's 50, so who knows.

    From ESPN:

Qadeer (UK): Hello Bert, honour to speak with you. Who in your eyes will be the best 5 fighters of this decade, and is pacquiao on the list?

Boxing Historian Bert Sugar: I think you must include the fighter of the five or 10 or whatever number you make the list, because of the perceived greatness. There would be others, of course, who could be considered for inclusion, such as, Marco Antonio Barrera, Joe Calzaghe, Erik Morales, Antonio Margarito, Juan Manuel Marquez. Please note there are no heavyweights on this list for obvious reason.

if hopkins will keep on fighting and beat dawson, win a rematch w/ cal and beat other decent opponents, he will surely surpass pac. also when pbf unretire, beat top welters.

Pac is not on the level of Cal, Floyd or Hop. PAc has to beat Floyd to get my vote for fighter of the decade!

He would if Pac did nothing from here, but if Pac goes ahead with three fights in 2009, and beats Hatton, Marquez/Diaz and Mayweather, he'll easily get it. But Hopkins does have some big wins. His win over Trinidad is close to the best win of the decade (I said close to, not the, though a case can be made), and with wins over Tarver, Pavlik, Winky and even Oscar... he's up there. I think both are ahead of Floyd already.

well, that's your opinion and i respect that. hope you'll also respect others opinion.

beating floyd will be very difficult task for pac, but if he'll able to accomplish that, definitely he's the fighter of the decade :deal

Right now, Floyd Mayweather has been the FOTD, Manny is the closest to him & depending on what they both do from now until 2010 will decide.

FMJ is the BEST fighter of the decade but whether he puts those skills to good use to claim the actual award of FOTD might be another matter.

    Marquez (2x)
    Barrera (2x)
    Morales (2x)
    De La Hoya

    (Hatton??????)

It would be hard to argue with that.
