Just before Pacquiao's win over Clottey , Bert Sugar was asked to place him in historical perspective ,he called him "probably the greatest left hander of all time". The candidates include the likes of Hagler and Whittaker, was Sugar right?
Whitaker and Hagler were never put on their face, or, in fact, ever knocked out. I would rate both ahead of Manny.
Pac is not the best fighter if our generation but his greatness is sensational. Lineal champ at FLW, FW, WW. That's 3 divisions over a 45 pound gap. Incredible.
Um, Rigo would beat him at 122 and under also. But Pacquiao fought in straight lines and relied on his left too much at those weights. Most likely Hamed at those weights too. Manny at 126 likely would be a slight favorite. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Pacquiao's actual fighting abilities are getting a little underrated here. Not saying he's the best ever H2H because he's not. But a lot of the crticism he faces came from weight classes where he ill suited for. He was a malnourished teenager at 112 and got knocked out twice. He was a natural Featherweight who had no business being at Welterweight. Of course he didn't look nearly as good at 147. He arguably has the GOAT workrate and stamina. Can anybody really give him a legit run in that department besides Aaron Pryor with the bottle?
Rigo's path would be fraught with danger. Could just as easily be Pac by KO as Rigo by UD. Wouldn't bet on that one.
