Let's cut to the chase. Can you make the argument that Marciano represents the pinnacle of the sport of boxing?

In terms of record, he was perfect. His power was off the charts and likely the greatest ever witnessed in the division. He was able to spin deficits in length, height and weight into advantages thru his fistic wizardry. He had fairly impeccable defense. He trained harder than other fighter on record. And he had the heart of 20 lions.

I think the case is readily apparent. What say you?

When I think "pinnacle of boxing excellence" I don't think Marciano. Nobody should.

That kind of label is difficult to pin down on any one individual but if it were possible Rocky would be about the last consideration of boxing panache and showcase excellence.

Rocky is only really a poster boy for what can be achieved in spite of not being the pinnacle of what the sport is about.

Most people would pick a more traditional stand up boxer with better longevity and larger resume. And they would be right to do so.

Ray Robinson, Joe Louis, Arguelo, Duran, Hagler, Ali, Hearns, Willie Pep...that kind of thing.

Exactly, it's impossible to pin down one individual. There have been so many that did more than Marciano.

And I agree on the butt hurt theory.

DISCLAIMER: No butts were hurt in the production of this topic.

I will merely repeat here what I have learned through the astute observations and scholarly GIF's presented on this board.

    49-0 is perfection. Irrefutable.

Defensive wizardry proven by modern evidence of the GIF and one Walcott quote.

    Beat ATG's.

The greatest one shot power in the most powerful division.

Hardest trainer of all-time. Copywrited the term "monk-like".

Most heart of any athlete, man or animal.

Now, how much more of the work do I have to do for you? The question of the topic is "CAN YOU FORM AN ARGUMENT that he is the greatest of all time?" Can you?

So, despite the points I have listed above you CAN NOT form even an argument that he is the GOAT? What more would a fighter need to do for you to even make an argument that he is the greatest?
