Marciano had 37 fights under his belt when he faced Louis. Want to compare his opponents to Moses Itauma's who only had 20 amateur fights,2 more than Marciano?

I don’t care facts be facts he had 4 years of boxing and wasn’t even a true HW, hard work not a talent like Moses.

He cared where he hit you,he just wasn't very accurate!

Let's talk about lack of experience.
Holmes 14 amateur fights, won the pro title in his 28th fight.
Tyson 26 amateur fights, won the pro title in his 28th fight.
Berbick 6 amateur fights, won the title in his 37th fight.
The same amount of pro fights as Marciano had when he fought Louis ,and 12 less amateur ones than Marciano.

    Got any more excuses?

Marciano wasn’t as talented as those guys he was a hard working late start to the game, plucky little HW and idol to all.

A late start makes no difference, he had as much if not more experience as those I mentioned, and a man's strength.

    Plucky little HW fighting 5 men175lbs or under,17 under 185lbs,26 under 190lbs.

His victims had 233 stoppage loses on their records .Forty nine nil and comprising one of the most heavily padded records of any heavyweight champ.

Make no mistake, Marciano was a great fighter, but he was fortunate to come along when there were no class super heavies as we know them today, and the best of the division were past their primes.
Rocky was also lucky to have a manager who was also the matchmaker at MSG and who was also a puppet of Frankie Carbo, who ran boxing in the 50's
    Great stamina?
His best wins were over men 33,37, 38 ,and 41.
    Great chin?
How many top end heavyweight punchers did he face?
    Good defence?
He was cut in all his major fights.
To counter act his lack of polish and stature,Marciano trained religiously,
He had intense dedication, will to win ,tremendous heart ,and punch power that, because of his excellent conditioning,he could throw relentlessly.
Several of his opponents,Lastarza,Moore,Charles,Cockell , said they were hit harder by others, but that none of those others could maintain that incessant barrage of power punches as long as Rocky was able to. Along with Dempsey and Langford,I rate him the best under 190lbs heavyweight of all time.

Wouldn't you favor Roy Jones to beat him? What about Bivol, Beterbiev?

Marciano was not an athlete, though deceptively quick. Lunch pail guy. Brought his hard hat. Coach's son. Hard worker. First one in the gym, last one out.

    Am I missing something?

I would not favour any of them to beat Marciano.

Maybe slightly above average foot speed. Average or so hand speed, although he could sometimes get decent acceleration for his KO blows. It was his high volume and relentless pressure that compensated for his lack of explosiveness, technique, and speed.

McVey doesn’t need me to stick up for him but his view of Marciano has always been a balanced and fair one - and I say that as a massive fan of Marciano.

I also agree with McVey’s assessment that The Rock, along with Langford and Dempsey are the greatest sub 190lb HWs in history.

Tyson had been boxing since childhood Mac and Holmes isn’t “typical” how much experience did Tyson have over Marciano before he ever had an offical amateur bout? Tyson started at 13 and had a DECADE of exp when he won the title, Holmes was 28 when he won the title and already a decade into boxing… Marciano started at 23, turned pro at 25 and won the title at 29 he only got 6 years TOTAL - Berbick was a belt holder never the real champ keep that in your pocket lol. I can point out instances like Ali having started at 12 and at age 21 (9 years of experience an extensive amateur background) struggling mightily with Doug Jones after 3 years as a pro, similar pro time as Marciano when he was beating on an ancient Louis. My dear Big Mac listen Marciano was a late start, not overly gifted, hard working and everybody is brought along at different speeds it’s part of the game, Goldman was building a fighter Louis was just a good test, good money too he won that fight easily on film what’re you holding against him that he was hit by jabs? lol we agreed in your initial response, he was hard to hit cleanly you think hitting Marciano is easy? Perhaps it isn’t hard to find him BUT not cleanly or “hard” he had an Ali like elastic quality to roll with the blows. So what do you disagree on? It’s not his defence, we agreed Marciano is hard to hit hard - Got anymore excuses to discredit a legend? :buitre:

    These numbers are garbage

He fought quite a few guys over 190-200

    I hate liars

I just combed his record, Boxrec said he fought 11 guys 200 and over. You said 0. Hence why you’re either lying or just totally unaware of your lacking information. I didn’t even count the guys 190 and higher, which would be probably even higher than the 200 and over opponents.

Edit: He fought 12 guys of 190 and over but under 200.

So you said he fought 0 men 190 and over, but it was really 24 men.

    Hi Buddy.
Interesting you should mention the speed of Ali and Patterson, long ago I read an article whereby Rocky was contemplating making a comeback not long after his retirement, but the reasons he cited as to why he decided to stay out of the ring were, a worsening back problem, the arduous task of losing weight, getting into fighting shape, and the most pertinent was the speed of the young Patterson, apparently he felt the younger faster fighters coming up would be a bridge too far, and Floyd in particular would present a big problem.
    stay safe buddy, chat soon.
    Mike.
