I personally think Marquez - Vasquez III was a little better, Marg - Cotto was still a brilliant fight though.

Margarito-cotto Has To Be The Fight Of The Year...vasquez Marquez 3 But The Drama Doesnt Compare....margarito Is Fighter Of The Year At This Point Too...ko Cintron And Tko Cotto...if He Beats Clottey He Has To Be The Fighter Of The Year...pac Can Be Up There If He Gets And Beats Oscar...but Right Now My Votes On Margo

Watching Vasquez vs Marquez 3 was nothing like watching Cotto vs Margarito. The best fight I've ever seen live, and mostly because it was such an intriguing and unpredictable fight. We thought we had a winner going into the 6th and 7th rounds, and then Cotto would get hurt, and Margarito started to land his uppercut more. People say from then on you could see Cotto was going to lose but I don't buy that at all. Watching it live, you were under the impression Cotto whethered the storm, and would go back to outboxing Margarito to a 12 round decision. I doubt anyone picked Margarito to win by stoppage after the initial 5-6 rounds. Unbelievable ending, and every round saw Cotto land with huge shots.

A fight of the year isn't just about picking the fight with the most action, it's about drama, significance, and entertainment value...and I think with all of those things considered, Cotto vs Margarito should be the winner. It's close.

I think Izzy/Rafa 3 is going to get the nod base on the fact it closed a great trilogy. Both are great fights though.

Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez 2 is a little unfortunate to be in the same year as Cotto/Margarito and Vasquez/Marquez 3, otherwise it'd be a winner I believe. I rate it very highly, and was the most significant fight of the year for me, as Pacquiao and Marquez were and still are two of the most talented active fighters in Boxing. Thoroughly disappointed with the verdict, but the fight was exceptional from the first bell. I don't believe a fight has to be purely action packed to be great, it was one of those fights that you couldn't take your eye off for a second because you knew there was going to be drama. I'm going to re-watch and re-score it now.
