If Margarito goes on to dominate the division with wins over Mosley, Williams, Berto, and Mayweather, will he be the new Hagler and one of the greatest welters of all time? Will Amsterdam have a heart attack? Will Pimp C Die? Will Fitzgerald still be GAY?
No and no to amsterdam having a heart atack, pimp c will live but i suppose fitzgerald will still be gay
Lets make a Margarito vs Hagler thread. Since theres been discussions about Margarito vs Duran, Hearns and Leonard, lets add Hagler to complete the fab. four. :hat
Like ricky hatton his chin is starting to fail, same as tony tucker his solid whiskers depleated :good
Easy question...and the answer is....NO Difference is Hagler was the best Middleweight in the world years before he won the title. Avenged all his losses by compete domination of his opponents before winning the title. Margarito skill-level isnt high enough to retain a title for a long period of time. This content is protected Margarito has been a pro since his teens, is past 30 and isnt gonna be in his prime for long. A great warrior in Castillo shows how a long career affects sluggers with great chins. I might not be the chin but where and tear and desire. Margarito is a good fighter, Hagler was a great fighter. Huge Difference.
It happens time and time again to fighters with great chins and leaky defenses. A powder puff fighter like Lujan actually hurt Castillo, who before his decline, had never been seen stumble, buzzed, hurt, or anything. A fighters ability to absorb punches deterioate with time.....happens to the best of em. Wish you the best Jose Luis Castillo, and I hope the next time we see is Canastota and not in the ring.
It was kind of the opposite for Hagler in terms of having the skills to adjust as he got older. He became more of a slugger/brawler very late in his career as opposed to a boxer, which he was for most of his career. Hagler in this sense, was the opposite of another middleweight to whom is often compared to Hagler, in Hopkins.
I agree with the Hagler/Hopkins analogy. As Hopkins aged he become more a cagey boxer and Hager the opposite. Basically what I meant About Hagler was when his hand speed, defensive reflexes, and footspeed deterioated he had to call on his other attributes and change his style to maintain his high successs rate. He was always supremely conditioned so he had to turn to his grit, chin, and power to get the job done. I just dont see Margarito, changing his style to say a boxer type and being successful as his punch resistance and stamina subside.
